Customer.io powers automated communication that people actually want to receive. We help teams send smarter, more relevant messages using real-time behavioral data.

About the role

Hi, I'm Eric, Senior Controller at Customer.io, and I'm looking for a Senior Accountant contractor to cover a maternity leave from approximately May 2026 through March/April 2027. You'll spend the first few months working directly alongside our current Senior Accountant for a thorough handoff, then take the reins independently on payroll accounting, commissions, benefits reconciliations, and our monthly close process.

This is a full-time contract (40 hrs/week), fully remote. You'll be a key cross-functional partner to HR, Sales Operations, FP&A, AP, and Payroll — and a consistent presence in our CFO accounting review process each month.

What we value

  • Obsessive attention to detail — you catch things before they become problems
  • Comfort owning your work independently after a solid transition
  • Clear, proactive communication with cross-functional partners
  • The instinct to flag discrepancies and ask "why" before moving on
  • Reliability during a critical coverage period — the team is counting on you

What you'll do

  • Prepare and record all payroll journal entries across ADP (mid-month, month-end, off-cycle), Deel, and Velocity Global
  • Reconcile all payroll-related balance sheet accounts at the employee level, including monthly flux analysis for CFO review
  • Record monthly accruals for benefits, SUI rate changes, and FX adjustments on international commissions
  • Prepare monthly commission entries, maintain the deferred commission waterfall schedule, and handle short- and long-term balance sheet reclassifications
  • Reconcile benefits at the employee level monthly and record adjusting entries tied to vendor billing and policy changes
  • Handle sales tax: reconcile payable accounts, prepare and remit monthly state-level filings
  • Serve as FloQast administrator — managing reconciliations, task assignments, and close checklist oversight
  • Support the monthly close process end-to-end and ensure timely delivery of all assigned items

What we're looking for

  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience with a strong focus on payroll and commission accounting
  • Solid grasp of multi-state (and ideally international) payroll accounting, deferred commission capitalization, and accrual accounting
  • Hands-on experience with ADP; familiarity with Deel is a plus
  • FloQast experience is a strong plus
  • Strong Excel skills — you're comfortable working with large, employee-level datasets
  • A communicator who can work fluidly with HR, Sales Ops, FP&A, and AP without missing a beat
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

Contract Details

  • Duration: ~May 2026 – March/April 2027 (maternity leave coverage)
  • Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week
  • Rate: $50–$60/hour
  • Location: Remote
  • Tools: ADP, Deel, Velocity Global, FloQast, Excel

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
