The Pharmaceutical Logistics Director is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and management of the company's pharmaceutical logistics operations. This includes managing the Transportation, Brokerage, Warehousing, and Inventory Management of pharmaceutical within the logistics value chain for pharmaceutical products in compliance with industry standards and regulations. The position requires exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills to optimize operational efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure timely delivery of products throughout the pharmaceutical supply chain.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Logistics Planning

  • Lead the End-to-End Pharmaceutical Logistics Strategy: Oversee the global movement of pharmaceutical products, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and compliant transport from manufacturing facilities to distribution centers and ultimately to end customers.
  • Drive Strategic Logistics Planning & Execution: Develop and lead logistics strategies that align with company goals, focusing on cost control, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Foster Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with departments such as Planning and External Manufacturing to ensure logistics objectives align with broader business priorities.

Third-Party Relationships & Contract Negotiations

  • Establish and Strengthen Third-Party Partnerships: Build and sustain strong relationships with Third-Party Logistics (3PL) suppliers, ensuring mutual benefits in terms of efficiency and cost savings.
  • Negotiate and Secure Strategic Contracts: Lead contract negotiations with third-party logistics providers, transportation companies, and warehouse services to secure favorable terms and maintain high-quality service delivery.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and Inspire Logistics Teams: Provide visionary leadership to a high-performing logistics team, motivating them to manage global product movements efficiently. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and excellence.
  • Set Clear Performance Standards: Establish performance goals for the logistics team, conduct regular evaluations, and implement professional development programs to foster team growth and success.

Operational Excellence & Warehouse Management

  • Ensure Operational Excellence in Warehouse Management: Oversee third-party warehouse operations, ensuring the safe storage of pharmaceutical products with compliance to required temperature and environmental conditions, especially for sensitive items.
  • Safeguard Product Integrity: Ensure the integrity of products during transportation and storage, particularly biologics and temperature-sensitive medications, by adhering to industry best practices and regulations.

Budgeting, Cost Control & Financial Oversight

  • Champion Budgeting & Cost Control: Take full responsibility for managing the logistics budget, monitor expenses, and actively identify opportunities for cost reduction while maintaining high service quality standards.
  • Conduct Strategic Cost-Benefit Analysis: Lead in-depth analysis of logistics operations to uncover potential savings in transportation, warehousing, and overall operational efficiency.

Delivery & Customer Satisfaction

  • Drive Timely Product Delivery: Ensure that the global distribution network runs smoothly, meeting product delivery timelines and exceeding customer expectations.
  • Ensure Unwavering Customer Satisfaction: Guarantee timely and accurate product deliveries while maintaining exceptional service quality, accuracy, and attention to customer needs.
  • Resolve Logistics-Related Issues: Address and resolve logistics-related customer complaints or operational challenges to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and service excellence.

Data Analytics & Process Optimization

  • Leverage Data Analytics for Optimization: Utilize advanced data analytics to optimize routing, shipping, and storage processes, driving improvements in operational efficiency and reducing costs.
  • Promote Continuous Operational Improvement: Lead efforts to drive continuous improvements in logistics operations, identifying areas for innovation, and optimizing overall performance.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Identify and Mitigate Risks: Continuously evaluate and mitigate risks within logistics operations, implementing strategies to minimize disruptions and ensure a reliable supply chain.
  • Navigate Regulatory Compliance: Stay ahead of global regulatory changes, adjusting logistics processes as needed to ensure compliance with evolving legal and industry standards governing the transportation and storage of pharmaceutical products.
  • Develop a Robust Import/Export Compliance Program: Lead the development and oversight of an Import/Export Compliance Program, facilitating smooth pharmaceutical product movement globally and ensuring compliance with necessary regulatory frameworks (e.g., Temporary Import Bonds, Free Trade Zones, and Duty Drawback).

Regulatory & Auditing Standards

  • Ensure Full Regulatory Compliance: Oversee logistics operations to ensure they comply with local and international regulations (FDA, GMP, GDP, ISO, etc.) for the transportation, storage, and handling of pharmaceutical products.
  • Conduct Comprehensive Audits: Lead regular audits to ensure adherence to industry standards, safety protocols, and legal requirements, promoting operational excellence and maintaining integrity across all logistics processes.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A master’s degree or certification in supply chain management (e.g., APICS, ISM) is a plus.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in logistics, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial or director-level role within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical regulations, Good Distribution Practice (GDP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and other relevant industry standards.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading a logistics team and driving operational excellence.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
