System Engineer Lead (SME)

Dark Wolf Solutions is seeking a highly experienced System Engineer Lead (SME) to lead the evaluation, development, and support of enterprise business systems. This role is responsible for aligning IT systems with business objectives, managing complex technical projects, and ensuring compliance with federal security standards. The ideal candidate demonstrates deep technical expertise, leadership, and a consultative approach to enterprise IT operations. This role is located in Huntsville, AL. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review, analyze, and evaluate complex business systems and user needs.
  • Formulate systems and solutions that align with organizational goals and business strategies.
  • Document user needs, system requirements, and functional specifications.
  • Lead system planning, integration, and architecture efforts across server, storage, and network domains.
  • Provide expert consultation on enterprise-level infrastructure and virtualization technologies.
  • Support accreditation and authorization (A&A) processes in accordance with the customer's ATO framework.
  • Ensure compliance with NIST 800-series, FISMA, and related federal cybersecurity standards.
  • Evaluate and manage NIST 800-53 control implementations and provide recommendations using GRC tools.
  • Collaborate across teams to develop secure, scalable, and optimized IT environments.
  • Lead system troubleshooting and performance tuning across Windows, virtualization, and network layers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Windows & Active Directory
  • Strong knowledge of NIST 800-series and FISMA compliance requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering or enterprise IT infrastructure
  • Familiarity with system ATO processes and customers security frameworks
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership in large-scale IT projects or programs
  • HS Diploma 
  • U.S. Citizen with active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • VMWare vSphere 7
  • Cisco networking
  • Dell server and SAN storage hardware
  • Experience with GRC tools such as RiskVision, Xacta, or JCAM
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
    • VMware Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
    • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
