About the Opportunity:
Art Handler - Full Time | $32 - 37 p/h
David Zwirner seeks a Full-Time Art Handler. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience art handling in a gallery, museum, professional artist studio, fine art trucking company, or auction house setting. Positive attitude and a strong work ethic are essential. Working hours for this position are generally 10am-6pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
This position will require a paid practical skills test period to determine that the applicable skillsets meet the requirements of the position.
What you’ll do:
- Provide installation support for private gallery viewings and public exhibitions.
- Load and unload fine art ground transport shipments at our NYC gallery locations.
- Safely pack artworks for shipment and storage according to fine art industry standards.
- Unpack/pack artworks for Registration team to conduct condition checks according to the daily schedule.
- Pack and install artworks for regional art fairs, institutional loans, and other external exhibitions.
- Assist with local artwork deliveries and off-site installations.
- Maintain art handling shop and related art storage to gallery’s standards.
- Work in tandem with facilities department to maintain public and private gallery spaces.
What we would like you to have:
- Knowledge of safe and proper handling, installation, maintenance, packing, and storage procedures for a variety of media.
- Working knowledge of power tools and the ability to use them safely and skillfully.
- Detail-oriented, communicative, and extremely organized.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
- Ability to physically bend, kneel, push, pull, lift 30 pounds or more, and stand for long periods of time.
- Working knowledge of Macintosh OS, as well as familiarity with art database systems.
