About us
Artificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. At Google DeepMind, we’re a team of scientists, engineers, machine learning experts and more, working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.
The role
We are seeking an experienced Product Manager for our Life Sciences effort to develop and drive adoption of AI-based solutions that enhance global food security. You will be responsible for defining and executing the overall strategy, including initiating, leading, organising and conducting activities that advance the social impact of AI applications to global food security.
This is an evolving and dynamic area of Google DeepMind with a collaborative, diverse group that partners closely with a wide variety of teams across Alphabet and a range of external partners.
Key responsibilities
- Develop the impact strategy for key focus areas in the Life Sciences effort, starting with food security.
- Drive a portfolio of projects to deliver the strategy, taking ownership of defining objectives, outlining strategies and roadmaps, and achieving results.
- Identify and define opportunities to use Google DeepMind technology to solve real-world problems, working alongside research, engineering and partnerships teams, and partner with them to determine the best approach and execution plans for prioritised ideas.
- Use your influence to bring together and motivate individuals (including Scientists and Engineers) from across Google DeepMind to work on projects related to AI applications for enhancing food security.
- Scope, prototype and launch solutions, and build and manage external product/deployment partnerships where relevant.
- Develop and execute a plan to drive adoption of solutions, continuously monitoring and understanding drivers of it. Identify and execute high value impact acceleration opportunities.
- Collect and incorporate research improvements and ideas from stakeholders and partners for the solution roadmap.
- Identify and deliver opportunities to catalyse the use of AI for addressing food security challenges.
- Define metrics and evaluate the success of projects against their goals and objectives, and share lessons and insights across the wider business.
- Build relationships and collaborate with multiple stakeholders internally (GDI, GDM and broader Alphabet) and externally.
- Proactively monitor the external landscape, engaging with partners, researchers and experts to understand key sector needs, challenges and emerging opportunities.
The role will suit candidates who enjoy applying state-of-the-art AI to important real-world problems that maximise positive impact for the wider community.
About you
In order to set you up for success as a Product Manager in the GDI Life Sciences team, we look for the following skills and experience:
- Prior professional experience and/ or an academic background in an area of life sciences.
- Deep interest in food security, with demonstrable knowledge of the global landscape, key challenges and potential solutions.
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge of managing products and programs relating to real-world AI applications.
- Product management experience; crafting strategic product roadmaps, working with cross-functional teams to manage the lifecycle of products from inception to delivery, and driving adoption and impact.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of colleagues, senior leadership and partners.
- Confidence and effectiveness in engaging researchers and engineers. While not a Machine Learning specialist yourself, you are able to understand the considerations related to AI research and technologies.
- Strong communication skills; ability to synthesise complex or technical details into accessible and precise insights, establish credibility with internal and external stakeholders, and represent Google DeepMind externally.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity and shape your own path. You are comfortable navigating uncharted territory, taking initiative, and defining a clear path forward in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
