JOB PURPOSE
This role is part of our Global Studios team. We create emotive yet conversion-focused ideas, products and campaigns at scale and speed. Our specialty is hyper-personalised, digital communications that change perceptions, shape new behaviours, and shift market share for our clients.
DEPT is looking for a seasoned Project Director to lead a key business unit within a significant ecommerce platform for Google. This role is designed for a systems-thinker who enjoys the challenge of managing complex digital workstreams while actively looking for ways to improve the underlying process. You will oversee the delivery of high-valued digital experiences, ensuring that every product launch or marketing initiative meets the high standards of design and functionality our clients expect.
The ideal candidate brings an entrepreneurial spirit and a "code-curious" mindset to the team. We are looking for someone who doesn’t just work within existing systems, but naturally tinkers with and creates their own tools to enhance team workflows. As a senior member of the team, you will balance excellent client management fundamentals with a genuine desire to lead and mentor others. We want a partner who is deeply curious about emerging technology and eager to help us navigate the intersection of technical innovation and strategic project delivery.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Strategic Client Partnership: Act as the primary strategic lead for client relations, ensuring our work aligns with their overarching product marketing strategy and web design standards.
- Process Architecture: Lead the effort to codify team knowledge by building comprehensive playbooks and standardizing workflows to ensure scalable, high-quality output.
- Systems Innovation: Design and implement bespoke project management tools or automation to enhance team efficiency.
- Complex Program Oversight: Structure and lead multi-workstream digital projects, prioritizing resources in real-time to meet the demands of high-profile product launches.
- Technical & Creative Literacy: Facilitate seamless communication between creative and development teams, translating complex technical requirements into actionable creative briefs and vice versa.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Direct multi-disciplinary teams (Design, Copy, Production) and actively mentor junior staff to foster a culture of excellence and innovation.
- Emerging Tech Advocacy: Stay at the forefront of internet advancements, translating "what’s next" into actionable strategies for our clients’ digital presence.
- AI Integration: Serve as an enthusiastic adopter and advocate for AI tools, exploring and implementing new ways to integrate AI into our project management and production workflows.
- Creative Problem Solver: You combine rigorous logic with a "yes, and" mindset, utilizing strong analytical skills to quickly summarize complex information for any audience while finding resourceful ways to navigate technical constraints without compromising on creative excellence.
- Exceptional Communicator: Possess the ability to summarize complex information succinctly for executive stakeholders while remaining a clear, supportive guide for the internal team.
- Systems Thinker & Tinkerer: You look beyond the immediate problem to identify root causes, with a natural drive to "open the hood" and build your own solutions—whether through No-Code tools, scripts, or custom playbooks—to solve workflow friction and prevent future issues.
- Leadership & Mentorship: A natural desire to share knowledge and elevate the skills of those around you, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
- Entrepreneurial Spirit: You treat your business unit like your own company, with a focus on both the "big picture" strategy and the "small picture" technical details.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Experience: 7+ years in digital project management, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity within an interactive agency.
- Technical Literacy: High comfort level with web technologies (HTML5, mobile, prototyping tools) and a genuine curiosity for how things are built.
- Proven Impact: A portfolio of "best-in-class" digital deliveries, including global campaigns or large-scale platform launches.
The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $130,000 – $140,000 CAD. Salary is based on relevant experience, expertise, and organizational impact.
