BI System Administrator

THE OPPORTUNITY

The BI team at Dillard’s is seeking an experienced, highly motivated system administrator with a passion for learning new skills that will be applied throughout various work assignments.

In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and efficiency of the Teradata database and its surrounding ecosystem, which includes IBM DataStage and Cognos at an operating system and configuration level. You will also collaborate with a team of database administrators to ensure the database is always available and performing optimally. 

Ideally, you will be well-versed in Teradata, Python, BASH, and Korn Shell. As a member of this team, you should value collaboration and be able to work independently as well as share your knowledge and work well with other members of the team.

THE TEAM

This role is on our Business Intelligence (BI) team which is responsible for the data and delivery of business reports to many partners within Dillard’s. These reports are a critical part of our business, and we rely on BI to provide accurate and timely data.  The BI team is the “SIRI” of Dillard’s. The work is fast-paced and never dull. Working on this team will allow you to explore many areas of the business.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Install and maintain any and all necessary applications within the BI ecosystem
  • Create and maintain disaster recovery documentation for the BI ecosystem
  • Collaborate with other teams to develop solutions
  • Manage service requests from our third-party partners
  • Maintain and monitor backup solutions, common vulnerabilities, and exposures
  • Participate in on-call rotations

THE MUST-HAVES

  • Database administration skills
  • Familiarity with AIX and/or Linux operating systems
  • Experience with BASH and Korn Shell
  • Self-sufficient, ability to utilize critical thinking to identify resources to complete a project
  • Ability to research potential solutions 
  • 4-year degree in Information Systems or related field
  • 2 years of system administration experience
  • 2 years of database experience
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Ability to work onsite at Corporate Headquarters in Little Rock, AR

THE NICE-TO-HAVES

  • GitLab or GitHub exposure
  • Web application development experience
  • Experience with: Python, Java,  Microsoft Azure, Teradata, Chat GPT

WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU’LL

  • Successfully execute/research database object creations independently, and demonstrate a general understanding of the Teradata architecture.
  • Gain experience with the platforms within the BI ecosystem, such as Cognos, Infosphere Datastage, Teradata.
  • Document procedures and policies.

WITHIN 2 MONTHS, YOU’LL

  • Have the foundation to create utility scripts on both AIX and Linux environments.
  • Answer questions about the objects in the database, as well as ecosystem configurations.
  • Independently support the Teradata platform in regards to security and roles. 

WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU’LL

  • Comfortably communicate with third-party partners.
  • Begin Teradata certification program.
  • Be involved in discussions with upper management about future enhancements.
