Overview
DLH is seeking a Machine Learning (ML) engineer, working in this branch of artificial intelligence, to be responsible for creating programs and algorithms that enable computers to take actions without human intervention. Examples include document analyses with natural language processing (NLP) and automated application of analytics for data ingestion pipelines. A key feature of this work is enabling computers to learn automatically and improve from experience. There may be some crossover with other disciplines, including computational statistics, mathematical optimization, data mining, exploratory data analysis, and predictive analytics.
Responsibilities
- Understand and use computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, computability and complexity, and computer architecture
- Use exceptional mathematical skills to perform computations and work with the algorithms involved in this type of programming
- Produce project outcomes and isolate the issues that need to be resolved in order to make programs more effective
- Collaborate with data engineers to build data and model pipelines
- Manage the infrastructure and data pipelines needed to bring code to production
- Demonstrate end-to-end understanding of applications (including, but not limited to, the machine learning algorithms) being created, build algorithms based on statistical modeling procedures and build and maintain scalable machine learning solutions in production using data modeling and evaluation strategy to find patterns and predict unseen instances, apply machine learning algorithms and libraries
- Lead on software engineering and software design
- Communicate and explain complex processes to people who are not programming experts
- Liaise with stakeholders to analyze business problems, clarify requirements, and define the scope of the resolution needed
- Analyze large, complex data sets to extract insights and decide on the appropriate technique
- Research and implement best practices to improve the existing machine learning infrastructure, and apply specific AI techniques when and where appropriate to provide support to engineers and managers in implementing machine learning in the products, along with independent
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or scientific field (e.g., Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science) and 2 years of relevant work experience. Advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MS) are a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in problem-solving across multiple disciplines, along with a proactive ability to rapidly suggest/identify solutions
- Demonstrated experience applying machine learning to real-world datasets, including regression analyses, predictive modeling, and generative modeling.
- Proficiency in software and database programs such as C++, Python, Java, Mongo, and HTML.
- Additional experience with robotics, image recognition, and autonomous systems is considered a plus
- Hands-on experience with networking, server setup, and cloud computing (e.g., AWS) is a plus.
- Excellent technical communication skills, including preparing proposals, documentation, and explaining complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Basic Compensation: $135,000 - $145,000 yearly salary
The salary range listed reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. The final offer may vary based on skills, experience, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity. Additional compensation may include performance incentives and program-specific awards. We do not use salary history to determine compensation, in line with applicable law.
