About the Role:
As the Category Strategy Manager, you will play a critical role in developing and executing retail sales strategies to drive growth. You will work cross-functionally to optimize major programs, surface insights, and maximize performance. This role requires someone passionate about the retail/CPG industry who can manage strategic initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

This role will report to the Director of Retail Strategy.
This is a full-time, hybrid role with company benefits based out of Squatch HQ in Marina del Rey, CA.
The anticipated base compensation range for this role will be $100,000 to $130,000. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and local market rates.
What You'll Do:
- Category Analysis and Strategy Development
- Analyze market data, shopper insights, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities for category growth and differentiation.
- Track and report on category performance, providing insights to inform decision-making for assortment, pricing, and promotion strategies.
- Leverage syndicated data (e.g., Nielsen, IRI) to develop fact-based category stories that align with retailer objectives.
- Keep up with developments and best practices in category management. It is expected that you will pursue the knowledge needed to improve departmental capabilities and improve professional competence.
- Retailer Partnership Support
- Support the Director in building and executing category plans for key retail accounts, focusing on assortment optimization, shelf placement, and merchandising.
- Collaborate with Sales to develop customized category presentations and recommendations for retail partners.
- Conduct regular category reviews with retail partners to share insights, review performance, and explore growth opportunities.
- Key contributor to the development of customer-specific presentation materials supporting brand and category development
- Integrate insights into compelling selling stories with actionable recommendations, presenting directly to retailers.
- Build relationships with key retailers and influence category strategy at shelf to support achievement of Dr. Squatch goals
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Marketing and Product Development teams to support new product launches and promotional campaigns.
- Partner with the analytics team to assess the effectiveness of category initiatives and make data-driven recommendations.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure category management strategies are integrated into broader company initiatives.
- Partner with the Innovation team, Marketing, and Sales to identify opportunities on new products to bring to market using data insight
- Perform ad-hoc reporting and analysis utilizing various data platforms (Nielsen, Spins, IRI, etc.) to support sales and cross-functional teams
- Manage timelines and deliverables for category-related projects, ensuring alignment with retailer and business priorities.
About You:
- Bachelor’s Degree - ideally in Business, Marketing, quantitative, or technical field
- 5+ years of experience in CPG or retail - ideally in a Category Manager or Insights/Analytics role with a track record of advancement
- Previous experience with retailer, syndicated, and panel data sources, data analysis, and visualization tools
- Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint/Google Slides
- Advanced understanding of CPG industry trends and category management processes
- Self-starter mentality with a high degree of follow-through; able to own and take tasks to completion
- Strong critical thinking skills to turn data into clear, actionable narratives
- Leadership presence with the ability to communicate complex perspectives convincingly to team members, senior leaders, and the customer
- Outstanding project management abilities both independently and with cross-functional teams
- Interest in health and wellness, personal care, and/or retail/CPG industries with eagerness to drive impact
- Someone who gets things done without perfect resources, is innovative, and works with a sense of urgency
- Someone who has high standards, takes ownership, and is invested in the outcome
- Someone who proactively helps others, stays positive, and has a good sense of humor
