POSITION SUMMARY

 We are seeking a motivated Backend Engineering Intern to join our 12-week internship program. In this role, you will work on real-world backend systems, contribute to production services, and collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional partners. The Offers team is a fast-growing, high-impact area at EarnIn, focused on building systems that deliver personalized, scalable value to our community members. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience building backend services, working with modern microservice architectures, and solving problems at scale in a fast-paced fintech environment.

This role requires hybrid work from our Mountain View office, with 2 days per week in person. The internship pays $30/hour, with an expected 40 hours per week over the 12-week program. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

  • Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of backend services for the Offers platform
  • Build APIs and services that power user-facing features and partner integrations
  • Collaborate with product, design, data science, and analytics teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following engineering best practices
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality software
  • Gain exposure to distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud infrastructure
  • Learn and apply industry-standard tools and technologies used in large-scale systems

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN 

  • How to build backend systems that power real-world financial products at scale
  • Designing and developing APIs and services with production-quality standards
  • Fundamentals of scalable system design and microservice architecture
  • Writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code in a collaborative codebase
  • Working cross-functionally with product, design, and data partners to ship features end-to-end
  • Debugging, testing, and improving system reliability in a live production environment

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR 

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and debugging
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, or similar
  • Familiarity with backend development concepts such as APIs and databases
  • Exposure to relational or NoSQL databases (e.g., Postgres, MySQL, DynamoDB) is a plus
  • Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn
  • Ability to make thoughtful decisions and clearly communicate tradeoffs and ideas
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Prior internship experience is a plus, but not required
