About the Payments team:

The Payments team owns every aspect of how money moves in and out of our global entertainment product - from traditional fiat payments to crypto deposits, withdrawals, and on-ramping experiences that make digital assets accessible to millions of users globally. Operating within a platform handling ~4 billion requests per day, the team works on systems processing ~3,000 bets per second and ~95 billion bets annually, with transaction volumes continuing to grow by tens of millions every week.

Working closely with product managers, designers, and operational teams, you’ll build and evolve highly scalable transaction processing platforms, wallet infrastructure, and seamless payment experiences across both fiat and crypto ecosystems. The team is central to Stake’s global expansion efforts, enabling new markets, currencies, payment providers, and crypto capabilities as the platform continues to scale worldwide.

This is a true “you build it, you run it” engineering environment with end-to-end ownership - from shaping product features and architectural direction through to implementation, scalability, reliability, and operational excellence in production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and design scalable, high-performance software solutions in alignment with project requirements and company standards.
  • Actively engage in hands-on coding, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure code quality, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Write efficient, scalable, and maintainable code, adhering to coding standards and best practices.
  • Lead technical discussions and propose solutions that drive team performance and contribute to team and company OKRs.
  • Innovate within the team by pushing for improvements and driving constructive changes to enhance team performance and efficiency.
  • Analyse complex problems and provide effective solutions, contributing to team goals and initiatives.
  • Lead and coordinate delivery of large-scale projects or components from start to finish.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and take initiative in technical discussions.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with the team, fostering a collaborative and learning-oriented environment.
  • Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance and constructive feedback to support their growth.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, product managers, and engineering teams to effectively communicate technical concepts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, focusing on scalable system design and development.
  • Experience with technologies such as Node.js, Microservices, Docker, Cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and related technologies.
  • Experience with IaC and CI/CD tools (e.g., Terraform, AWS Code Pipeline, GitHub Actions) for automating the deployment process.
  • Proficiency in Subscriptions technology (WebSockets, Pub/Sub, SQS), TypeScript, GraphQL, database technologies such as PostgreSQL.
  • Strong understanding of code architecture and design principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with teams and stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset to address complex technical challenges and devise innovative solutions.
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to learn new technologies to grow as a full-stack engineer.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Crypto domain knowledge.
  • Experience with Svelte + SvelteKit or other server-side rendering frameworks (e.g., React + NextJS, Vue + Nuxt, Quasar, etc).
  • Proficiency in JavaScript fundamentals, Storybook, and related technologies.
