We recognize the benefits of hybrid working and want to strike the right balance. For this role, we require three days per week in our NY office.
The Role
EDO is building the standard for measuring advertising effectiveness across TV and streaming. As a Backend Engineering Manager, you'll lead a team of 5 engineers building Ad EnGage, the data pipeline at the heart of that mission, processing petabytes of TV recordings and billions of rows of engagement data so advertisers can make critical decisions about their advertising strategy. You'll stay close to the code using a stack built on AWS, Python, Ruby, MySQL, and Snowflake, and work with the team to ensure the reliability and scale of the whole system.
What You Will Do
- Be a hands-on manager of a team of 5; act as a player-coach; stay close to the details of project work while supporting your team members as full owners, amplifying the impact of their work
- Lead cross-functional development of complex new features and capabilities, coordinating across the Data Science, Infrastructure, Front End, and Data Quality teams
- Elevate a team of driven engineers, mentoring them through their next phase of technical and professional growth
- Solve backend engineering challenges at the intersection of massive datasets, demanding product requirements, and the need for automation and scalability
- Drive high operational and data quality standards for our pipelines
- Recruit and evaluate backend engineers, including participating in technical interviews and making hiring decisions
What We Are Looking For
- A minimum of 6 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years of backend engineering experience and at least 2 years of experience leading teams
- A self-driven individual who eagerly takes ownership of projects and is comfortable wearing multiple hats
- Proven track record of shipping and scaling in fast-moving environments
- Strong track record hiring and growing an engineering team
- Someone who balances macro-level team leadership with hands-on mentorship in design and coding
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
- The ability to efficiently deliver good outcomes in open-ended situations with challenging engineering and business tradeoffs
- Strong knowledge of databases, SQL, cloud computing, and background job processing
- Previous industry experience working with TV or other advertising data is a plus

In compliance with New York Pay Transparency Law, the salary range for this position is $190,000-$230,000. We note the salary information as a general guideline only, as actual compensation may vary from posting. We will consider various factors to determine the offer for this role, including the scope and responsibilities of the position, relevant work experience, location, key skills, training, and business considerations.
