Cybersecurity Specialist III

The Cyber Security Specialist III provides senior operational cybersecurity expertise supporting both incident-management operations and SOC engineering/detection activities. Of the five positions, this is the role that Appendix B most explicitly distributes across operational functions. Cyber Specialist III will be a seasoned technical contributor with deep technical knowledge who develops solutions to difficult or unclear technical problems requiring collaboration, analysis, and understanding of end-solution impacts.  The Cyber Specialist III will perform real-time alert monitoring and triage incident report acceptance and coordination, incident analysis, containment/eradication/recovery, SOC engineering/deployment/operations/maintenance, and optional detection engineering/tuning/custom capability development.

Accordingly, the position monitors and analyzes security alerts, logs, events, reports, and cybersecurity data sources; investigates alerts; conducts initial triage; determines potential severity and impact; documents incidents; and escalates potential incidents according to Government procedures. The Specialist III receives, validates, documents, coordinates, and maintains incident information and supports incident analysis through correlation of logs, alerts, artifacts, reports, threat intelligence, and other Government-approved sources.

The position also supports containment, eradication, recovery, SOC tool operations, technical integration, detection tuning, and development or maintenance of SOC analytics and related capabilities.

  • Conduct real-time monitoring and analysis of security alerts, logs, events, and cybersecurity data.
  • Investigate alerts and perform initial incident triage and prioritization.
  • Conduct retrospective analysis based upon threat intelligence, IOCs, or Government direction.
  • Create and maintain incident cases, tickets, findings, and associated documentation.
  • Receive, validate, document, coordinate, and escalate cybersecurity incident reports.
  • Analyze suspected incidents to determine relevant activity, affected systems, IOCs, timelines, severity, and potential impact.
  • Correlate data from logs, alerts, artifacts, reports, and threat intelligence.
  • Develop and document recommended response and remediation actions.
  • Support containment, eradication, recovery, and incident closure.
  • Support deployment, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and sustainment of SOC capabilities.
  • Support rule, sensor, alert, and analytic tuning.
  • Develop or maintain detections, analytics, dashboards, scripts, interfaces, automation playbooks, and other SOC capabilities as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: 7 years.

The actual base salary offered will be determined based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant years and depth of experience, skills and qualifications, education, certifications, internal equity, and the specific requirements of the position. Candidates should not assume they will be offered the top of the posted range, as compensation is based on the individual qualifications and overall fit for the role.
