THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Narrative and World Lead for Eleventh Hour Games, you will be the architect of the interconnected systems of story, quests, characters, and lore. You would be responsible for strategy and execution of the campaign map progression that guides players through the world of Eterra. This role is ideal for someone extremely creative and especially passionate for ARPGs. This role requires someone who has strong autonomy and judgment. This role is remote, and requires strong written and verbal skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Build and maintain the narrative of the world, including core lore covering eras, cultures, factions, geographies, and key world events.
- Design campaign-level world maps structuring zones, quest hubs, travel routes, pacing, and progression logic across the narrative campaign.
- Develop main arc and side quest flows with emotional pacing, player motivation, and world-context integration.
- Write comprehensive character profiles—arcs, relationship webbing, dialogue, quest hooks, and interactions.
- Collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including combat, level, and environment designers to align map structure with narrative beats and gameplay flow.
- Oversee narrative documentation, dialogue QC, style guidelines, and help shape branching/story systems.
- "Be the voice" for the player experience by ensuring the narrative aligns with the player dynamics and enhances player immersion.
- "Be receptive and progressive" with narrative elements based on player feedback, game testing, and live-service data to maintain and improve the world and journey.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years in narrative design or quest design roles, specifically on ARPGs, open-world, or isometric RPGs.
- Professional experience in a role that includes strategic world-building and campaign mapping, specifically connecting narrative beats to geographical progression.
- Strong storytelling skills with a focus on characters, dialogue, emotional pacing, and player-driven motivations.
- Experience with quest structure, branching narratives, and system-level narrative implementation.
- Experience in a studio environment working on cross-team collaboration to integrate narrative into gameplay, world layout, and progression logic.
- Experience guiding qualitative workflow for teams and individual contributors.
- Familiarity with ARPGs, live-service pipelines, and multi-team collaboration.
PREFERENCES:
- Branching dialogue tools, in-engine experience, Deep ARPG knowledge.
- Experience working with data to make informed changes.
- Familiarity and understanding of industry trends and resources.
