Controller
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy in accounting and financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing strategic financial insights to support decision-making. The successful candidate will lead the accounting team, develop financial policies and procedures, and contribute to the long-term financial planning of the organization.
Location: Dallas | TX | Onsite position ***This role is onsite at the Lantern HQ in Dallas - we are not supporting remote work for this role at this time***
Responsibilities:
- Financial Management:
- Oversee all accounting operations, including treasury management, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, revenue recognition, and other entries.
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
- Coordinate the preparation of regulatory/tax reporting and filings.
- Prepare and submit periodic financial reports to senior management and other stakeholders.
- Internal Controls:
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
- Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting process.
- Prepare and review budget vs. actual variances.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to support business decision-making.
- Team Leadership:
- Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and development.
- Coordinate with other finance and company leadership on financial decisions.
- Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Coordinate the preparation of audits and collaborate with external auditors.
- Stay updated on industry trends and accounting regulations.
- Strategic Planning:
- Support financial planning and analysis (FP&A) to guide business strategy and direction.
- Participate in strategic data analysis, research, and modeling for senior company leadership.
- Drive the continuous improvement of end-to-end accounting practices, including further leveraging available technology to introduce additional efficiencies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA preferred.
- Proven experience as a Controller or similar role in a company of similar size and complexity.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Proficiency with accounting software and experience with ERP systems (NetSuite experience preferred).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.'
