About the Position
We are looking for an Energy Market Analyst/Senior EMA to join our India-based team, focusing on essential tasks within production cost model development and technical delivery of solutions. This role involves responsibilities that contribute directly to the model building, curation, maintenance, enhancement, and testing to ensure our solutions remain cutting-edge and relevant to the evolving market needs. The role also involves remaining abreast of energy market related regulations and policies primarily for the India region.
Key Accountabilities and Duties
1. Research and Data Management
- Conduct initial research, data sourcing, and preliminary analysis to build and then inform model adjustments.
- Process and validate large datasets (load, renewable profiles, generator data)
- Use Python, Excel, or similar tools to automate workflows and improve efficiency
- Support data preparation, cleansing, and structuring to maintain data integrity and facilitate accurate modeling.
- Maintain organized model structures and create reusable assets
2. Model Development/Enhancement
- Translate client objectives into clear analytical tasks
- Build, configure, and maintain PLEXOS models for various use cases including but not limited to Resource Adequacy, Production cost and market simulations and Long-term planning and capacity expansion
- Support senior analysts in identifying and implementing model enhancements, such as integrating new data sources or refining model assumptions. Contribute by conducting initial research, data sourcing, and preliminary analysis to inform model adjustments.
- Perform regular updates to energy market models, incorporating bulk data transfers and ensuring model parameters align with the latest market data.
- Support data preparation, cleansing, and structuring to maintain data integrity and facilitate accurate modeling.
3. Scenario Analysis and Sensitivity Testing:
- Assist in developing and running energy market scenarios and sensitivity analyses, adjusting model parameters to test different market conditionss and reporting insights that can aid in decision-making.
- Execute scenarios and sensitivity analyses to address client questions
4. Communication and Engagement:
- Clearly explain modeling assumptions, limitations, and results to internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in internal and external meetings, workshops, and training sessions
5. Report and Dashboard Development:
- Develop and maintain BI reports and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI, transforming data into visually engaging insights for internal and client presentations.
- Optimize Excel workbooks and dashboards with large data models to ensure smooth functionality and usability.
6. Testing and Quality Assurance:
- Develop test models and conduct test cases to validate results, ensuring model accuracy and stability with each software release.
- Contribute to model calibration by adjusting input parameters and aligning outputs with historical data benchmarks.
- Conduct regular quality checks on input data and model assumptions to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with industry standards. Address data discrepancies and coordinate with relevant team members to resolve any data-related issues.
7. Model Troubleshooting:
- Provide assistance to client-facing teams by troubleshooting and resolving basic model-related queries. Collaborate with support teams to address client concerns and document common issues and solutions for future reference.
8. Documentation and Process Improvement:
- Prepare charts, tables, and summaries explaining results and implications
- Contribute to written reports and presentation materials
- Document workflows, processes, and updates to ensure consistent and efficient model management practices.
- Identify areas for improvement and propose enhancements to streamline processes and boost productivity.
Candidate Requirements Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Energy Economics, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with data analysis and visualization tools, particularly Microsoft Power BI and Excel. Experience of optimizing large Excel data models is highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python VBA for data manipulation is a plus.
Knowledge of Energy Markets:
- Foundation in energy economics and market structures, with knowledge of Indiaof European energy markets is preferred as a bonus.
- Understanding of energy market modeling principles and experience interpreting model results.
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience in data modeling software, especially in energy markets.
- Familiarity with PLEXOS or comparable energy simulation tools.
- Experience managing and visualizing large datasets for reporting.
