Aerospace Parts Optimization Specialist

We are currently seeking an Aerospace Parts Optimization Specialist to work as a full-time consultant at a client site in East Hartford. This position is based on a 1-year contract basis with the potential for extension. This is a dynamic opportunity to make a meaningful impact by driving safety culture and compliance.
As an Aerospace Parts Optimizations Specialist, you will use your technical expertise to improve and align critical spare parts inventory for complex manufacturing equipment.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will:
- Audit and optimize aerospace spare parts inventory.
- Review and rationalize stocked inventory within Vallen and internal systems.
- Align spare parts inventory to machine tool requirements and maintenance strategies.
- Standardize and improve parts data integrity.
- Convert internal/MTSC part numbers to OEM component part numbers.
- Enhance part descriptions to include complete technical specifications, traceability, and usage data.
- Digitize and structure spare parts lists for integration with SAP and Vallen systems.
- Add and maintain visual identification (e.g., part images) for critical spares.
- Review and validate critical spares lists by machine/tooling asset.
- Support development of replacement strategies for obsolete or at-risk components.
- Partner with engineering and maintenance teams on lifecycle planning for key parts.
- Identify and procure hard-to-find or long-lead aerospace components.
- Support integrators and internal teams in sourcing and validating equivalent or replacement parts.
- Ensure all substitutions meet OEM and aerospace quality standards.
- Establish and manage relationships with critical OEMs and component suppliers.
- Coordinate re-certification and compliance plans with OEMs and component manufacturers.
- Redesign and refit MTS stocked areas and parts cribs for improved accessibility and efficiency.
- Lead consolidation of spare parts inventory across maintenance and production cribs.
- Collaborate with TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) teams to improve equipment uptime.
- Drive improvements in spare parts availability, reliability, and maintenance readiness.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience supporting spare parts, MRO inventory, or maintenance systems within:
- Aerospace manufacturing
- Defense manufacturing
- Precision machining / CNC environments
- Strong background working with machine tool components, OEM parts, and production equipment spares.
- Experience managing or optimizing technical spare parts inventory (not just transactional purchasing or warehouse work)
- Deep understanding of:
- OEM vs. component-level part structures
- Machine tool components (e.g., CNC systems, hydraulics, electrical components, controls, etc.)
- Critical spare parts identification and lifecycle planning
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, BOMs, and equipment documentation.
- Familiarity with obsolescence management and replacement strategies.
- Hands-on experience working with:
- ERP systems (SAP preferred)
- Inventory management platforms (e.g., Vallen or similar)
- Strong ability to:
- Clean, standardize, and optimize parts data and descriptions
- Convert internal part numbers to OEM-standard formats
- Digitize and organize large, complex spare parts lists
- Able to identify gaps, excess, and redundancy in spare parts inventory.
- Ensures parts are accurately identified, described, and aligned to equipment.
- Capable of sourcing or identifying solutions for hard-to-find or obsolete components.
- Works effectively with maintenance, engineering, vendors, and integrators.
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience supporting TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) programs.
- Experience with crib management or spare parts consolidation initiatives.
- Background working directly with OEMs and component vendors.
- Exposure to aerospace compliance and traceability standards.
