Communications Specialist (Variable Part-Time)

ESA seeks a highly motivated Communications Specialist with 3+ years of experience in assisting specifically with the development and execution of social media content plans to join our Corporate Communications Team. This role requires excellent writing capabilities. Experience in Adobe InDesign is strongly preferred.  Preference given to candidates with additional experience in Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Bridge, but not required. This role is variable part- time (VPT) role working no more than 30 hours per week averaged over the quarter. 

This is primarily a remote role, but candidates must be within a commutable distance and able to work as-needed from one of our ESA offices including Petaluma, Oakland, San Francisco, Sacramento, or Seattle to for in-person training and collaboration.

Who You Are

  • You have three (3) years of professional experience in marketing or communications, or related position.  
  • You have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or related field, or combination of equivalent education and experience.  
  • Experience and competency in Adobe InDesign is strongly preferred. 
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Bridge are a plus, but not required.  
  • Experience with Agorapulse (or other social media management dashboard), Google Analytics, video editing software, and understanding of website content management systems a plus, but not required.  
  • You practice a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in your work. 
  • You have excellent communication and public relations skills, including exceptional writing skills, oral presentation skills, attentive listening skills, and are able to present complex information understandably to a broad external audience of clients, partners, and industry colleagues on behalf of the firm. 
  • You are an effective team member with the desire to support multifaceted staff and senior leadership. 
  • Expanding your knowledge and experience in a fast-paced, varied environment is a high priority for you. You have an interest in working in a multi-disciplinary environmental consulting company. 

 

What You Will Do for ESA

  • Plan, create, and implement a variety of content for ESA’s digital channels to highlight the firm’s project work, practice areas, regional presence, and strategic initiatives. Collaborate with regional marketing teams to develop digital strategies that reinforce communications plans, goals, and initiatives. 
  • Manage all of ESA’s social media channels. Working closely with the Communications Team and collaborating with technical and marketing staff across the firm.  
  • Responsible for overseeing the social media portion of ESA’s editorial content calendar; writing copy and developing accompanying creative assets; posting and sharing content across all channels; and engaging with ESA followers and commenters. 
  • Be a social listener to identify opportunities to grow ESA’s presence across social media platforms and provide insight to the Communications Team on industry trends and developments in the media landscape, in addition to brainstorming new and creative ways to amplify content and increase engagement. Measure, analyze, and report on engagement and channel growth in relation to content goals; support the creation of reporting deliverables and presentations. 
  • Provide guidance and training to technical staff on best practices for leveraging social media to raise their professional profiles and ESA’s brand in the marketplace. Work with them to draw out story lines and position them—and the firm—as thought leaders in our industry. 
  • Write, edit, and curate content—text, image, and videos—for other communications platforms as needed including company website, email campaigns, employee intranet, internal newsletters, and more ensuring that all assets adhere to ESA’s brand guidelines. 
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment and be able to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines while working on a team or independently. 
  • Ad-hoc tasks and projects as assigned 
  • The position typically requires indoor work with potentially occasional outdoor work. Indoor work can include, but may not be limited to, regularly sitting or standing at a desk or in meetings for long periods of time and using computers and other office equipment. Outdoor physical work includes but is not limited to running basic errands. 
  • Some travel may be required for site visits to gain project photos/videos 
  • Some travel may be required to and from our listed offices (Petaluma, Oakland, Seattle, San Francisco, or Sacramento) for in-person meetings, trainings, and team collaboration.

ESA has established multiple pay ranges tailored to the economic factors in the geographies in which ESA staff reside. For this position, the range is approximately as listed based on our anticipated hiring locations as noted in the above job details. Actual compensation is determined by several factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, skills, and the city in which the applicant lives.
