We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Design Engineer to support the design, development, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems in our natural gas midstream operations. The ideal candidate will work on compressor stations, pipelines, metering stations, processing plants, and related infrastructure, ensuring safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
The Electrical Design Engineer I/II/III/Sr responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design and specify electrical systems for midstream facilities including power distribution, motor controls, grounding systems, hazardous area classification, lighting, and automation and communication systems.
- Support the development and review of electrical single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and panel layouts.
- Conduct load studies and arc flash analysis to ensure proper sizing and protection of electrical equipment.
- Support the purchase and installation of electrical equipment including transformers, generators, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, power distribution panels and control/communication equipment.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including mechanical, civil, and process engineers, as well as project managers and field personnel.
- Provide technical support for the construction, commissioning and startup of new facilities and upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70E, API, IEEE), as well as federal, state and local regulations.
- Assist with root cause analysis and troubleshooting of electrical failures and outages.
- Contribute to capital project planning, cost estimation, and scheduling.
- Maintain and update electrical drawings and documentation for operational assets.
- Support reliability and maintenance initiatives, including asset integrity programs and SCADA systems integration.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Familiarity with midstream infrastructure such as compressor stations, dehydration units, and metering facilities.
- Working knowledge of power systems, control systems, and instrumentation in hazardous areas.
- Proficiency in SKM, or similar power system modeling software.
- Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA 70E, and API/IEEE standards.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably within the oil & gas or energy sector.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe.
- Experience with SCADA, PLCs, and HMI systems.
- Experience in commissioning, start-up, or field operations in midstream environments.
- Working knowledge of cathodic protection systems and hazardous area classification.
Work Location:
This position is primarily remote, with travel to field sites within our operating area required bi-weekly.
Selected incumbent will be placed into the position that best suits their abilities and experience level.
