Overview:
The DevOps/Technical Lead provides hands-on technical leadership for all DevOps initiatives, with a particular focus on leading DevOps activities supporting system migration projects. This role is responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of automated environments, robust configuration management, and seamless delivery pipelines. The DevOps/Technical Lead manages AWS infrastructure, automation processes, containerization strategies, infrastructure as code, and the comprehensive toolchain necessary for secure, resilient, and high-performing federal IT systems. The position is also responsible for the continual advancement of technology and the introduction of industry best practices to deliver innovative solutions meeting business objectives.
Core Responsibilities:
- DevOps Leadership: Lead all DevOps activities for system migration projects, ensuring stable, secure, and automated environments. Direct the automation and configuration management of critical systems across development, test, and production.
- Cloud Infrastructure Management: Oversee AWS infrastructure management tasks, including automated provisioning, configuration, and monitoring. Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC), containerization, and orchestration technologies to guarantee resilient, scalable environments.
- Automation and Deployment: Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines utilizing industry-standard tools. Lead security scanning, test automation, continuous delivery, and seamless production deployments to ensure high availability and rapid response to business needs.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with DevOps, Security, and other technical teams across the organization to maximize operational efficiency and security. Engage with development teams to automate administrative activities and support continual process improvement.
- Systems Operations and Toolchain: Manage system operations using advanced DevSecOps and open-source tools to support, secure, and monitor the environment. Continuously assess, integrate, and optimize new technologies to advance solution delivery.
- Agile & Best Practices: Drive continual advancement in technology by promoting creative, collaborative, and agile environments. Ensure the adoption of modern technologies and the implementation of industry best practices for solution efficiency.
- Process Improvement and Leadership: Lead, mentor, and guide the team in the continual improvement of DevOps and administrative processes. Take initiative in automating repeatable activities and optimizing workflow across teams.
- Analysis and Recommendations: Effectively conduct investigations and analyses of current technologies, recommend enhancements, and ensure adoption of development best practices. Provide actionable recommendations to improve architecture, performance, and DevOps maturity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required.
- Certifications: SAFe Agile certification required.
- Technical Tool Stack: Demonstrated expertise with AWS, Infrastructure as Code tools, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), configuration management, automated security scans, CI/CD, and the broader DevSecOps pipeline. Strong knowledge of relevant open-source technologies and systems monitoring tools.
- Project Experience: Proven experience supporting large-scale system applications, including system migration efforts involving complex infrastructure and coordination across multiple teams.
- Communication & Leadership: Strong ability to collaborate with DevOps, Security, and Development teams; mentor others in process improvement and emerging technologies; drive team performance and technical excellence.
- Analysis & Improvement: Experience conducting technical investigations and analyses, driving adoption of new technologies and best practices, and making recommendations that improve solution delivery and overall system performance.
Location: Work will be primarily onsite in Washington, DC, or other designated sites. Remote work requires prior client approval. Local and occasional out-of-area travel may be required.
