Technical Writer (Contract)
Summary:
- Initial contract period: 3 to 6 months
- Convert legacy technical documentation, primarily from Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign, into DITA XML format.
- Analyze existing content to determine the most effective DITA structure and content model for conversion.
- Develop and maintain conversion strategies and processes, including style-to-tag mapping and automation workflows.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure the technical accuracy of converted content.
- Implement and enforce DITA best practices and company style guides to maintain content quality and consistency.
- Utilize DITA authoring tools and Content Management Systems (CCMS) for effective content creation and management.
- Troubleshoot conversion issues and implement solutions to optimize the process.
- Provide guidance and support to other writers on DITA best practices and conversion processes.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of documentation tools and processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, or a related field.
- 8+ years of technical writing experience, with a strong portfolio of technical documentation.
- Demonstrated expertise in DITA XML authoring and publication workflows.
- Proven experience converting technical documents from Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign to DITA.
- Solid understanding of content conversion methodologies, including style-to-tag mapping and metadata management.
- Familiarity with DITA authoring tools such as Oxygen XML Editor, Adobe FrameMaker, or similar.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in the semiconductor industry.
- Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS) or Component Content Management Systems (CCMS).
- Experience with automated conversion tools and scripting.
Contract Hourly Range:
- The actual offered hourly contract pay will vary depending on factors such as individual qualifications, specializations, years of experience, skills, and job-related knowledge. The contract pay range for this position is $50-$70/hour.
