Senior Software Developer (BTI)
Fully remote | Complete engagement job
Founded in Palo Alto by Dr. Andrew Ng and Israel Niezen, Factored helps U.S. companies build and scale world-class AI, ML, and Data teams, powered by the top 1% of LATAM talent, with a defining purpose: To empower brilliant humans, unleash their potential, and amplify their impact in the world.
At Factored, you’ll be part of a community that values learning, ownership, and authenticity, where your growth is personal and your ideas matter. We’re transparent, curious, and collaborative. We strive for excellence, celebrate diversity, encourage curiosity, and build an environment where you can truly thrive.
As a Senior Full-Stack/Software Developer in Business Transformation & Intelligence (BTI), you'll design a clean, scalable architecture for our core platform, the shared software foundation that enables internal teams to ship and maintain their own tools without duplicating effort or re-buying capabilities. You'll work closely with internal departments in a high-ownership, foundational role, building real, in-house software that turns everyone's innovation and creativity into sustainable impact.
Functional Responsibilities:
- High Autonomy / High Impact: This is the first purely software-focused position in BTI. You will have significant influence over the engineering culture and technical trajectory of the department.
- Foundation & Architecture: Architect a modular and maintainable full-stack application that serves as the "Factored OS" and sets the engineering standards (testing, documentation, code style) for all future BTI software projects.
- Technical Strategy & Selection: Lead the evaluation and selection of the programming languages, frameworks, and infrastructure components (e.g., databases, hosting) that will form the backbone of the Factored OS, ensuring they align with BTI's goals for performance, security, and developer productivity.
- Technical Mentorship: Directly mentor and pair with a full-time junior engineer on the team, reviewing code, setting technical direction on day-to-day work, and building their ability to independently own well-scoped pieces of the platform.
- Security & Access Control: Design and implement a granular Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) system to ensure that sensitive engineer and candidate data is only accessible to authorized personnel based on their specific functional responsibilities within Factored.
- Documentation & Onboarding: Own and maintain architecture, tech stack, and infrastructure documentation, and build a clear onboarding path (dev environment setup, conventions, runbooks) so new contributors can ramp up quickly.
- CI/CD & Guardrails: Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with automated testing, linting, and deployment guardrails that enforce quality bars for anyone contributing to the platform.
- Remote & Agile: We operate in a fast-paced, remote-first environment where "shipping to learn" is valued over perfect, delayed specifications.
- Operational Integration: Design and implement bi-directional API integrations with Greenhouse (ATS), HiBob (HRIS), and Jira
- Product Discovery & Shaping: Partner with a Product Manager to translate vague business needs into technical specifications, helping "discover" the product through rapid prototyping and iteration.
- Performance & Scale: Develop a high-performance search and discovery engine for the talent pool (Engineer 360) that remains responsive and accurate as the volume of engineers and data points scales.
Qualifications:
- Senior Engineer (8+ Years): Proven track record of building, deploying, and maintaining full-stack, scalable applications and their underlying infrastructure.
- Startup-Native Mindset: Experience in early-stage environments where you had to build from "zero to one" rather than just maintaining features in a large, pre-existing corporate codebase.
- Leadership: Experience mentoring or directly supervising a junior/mid-level engineer's day-to-day work (not just informal advice).
- Security Fundamentals: Practical experience building modern authentication and authorization patterns (e.g., OAuth2, JWT, RBAC) and experience building applications that handle sensitive PII (Personally Identifiable Information) securely.
- Strong data foundations: Deep understanding of both SQL and NoSQL database architectures, with the ability to justify specific choices based on consistency, latency, and scalability trade-offs.
- System Design: Expertise in designing modular architectures that support future growth without becoming "spaghetti code."
- Modern backend framework proficiency (Node.js/TypeScript, Python/FastAPI, or equivalent) with REST API design
- Modern frontend framework (React/Next.js or equivalent) with component-driven architecture
- Authentication & authorization — OAuth2, JWT, and production RBAC implementation
- Cloud hosting & deployment (AWS/GCP/Azure) with CI/CD pipelines
- Event-driven architectures (queues, pub/sub, webhooks at scale)
Skills & Abilities:
- Architectural Decision Making: The ability to evaluate third-party pay-to-use tools vs. custom-built solutions and select a tech stack that balances price and speed-to-market with long-term maintainability.
- High-Stakes Communication: Ability to translate complex technical plans into clear roadmaps for non-technical stakeholders (PMs, Designers, Sales Leads) and argue for specific technical directions.
- Incremental Delivery: Proficiency in breaking down large, ambiguous product goals into small, prioritized technical tasks that deliver value incrementally.
- Bi-directional Integration: Skill in working with APIs and handling the complexities of state synchronization across multiple external systems.
While it’s not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
- Greenhouse, HiBob, and Jira API experience (or comparable ATS/HRIS/PM integrations)
- LLM/AI integration via APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) for features like summarization and smart matching
- Search engine implementation (Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Algolia, Meilisearch, or pgvector) for high-performance discovery
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CDK or CF)
- UI/UX sensibility — able to partner deeply with designers and prototype independently
- Performance optimization at scale (caching strategies, query tuning, pagination patterns)
Our Benefits:
- Ownership through equity participation.
- Annual company retreat.
- Education bonus for continuous learning.
- Company-wide winter break.
- Paid time off.
- Optional in-person events and meetups.
- Tailored career roadmaps.
- High-performance culture.
