Battery Test Technician
Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our humanoid robot, Figure 02, is designed for commercial tasks and the home. We are based in San Jose, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration. It’s time to build.
We are seeking a Battery Test Technician to support the development and validation of our battery systems. In this role, you will prepare and execute tests both onsite and offsite, collect critical performance data, and collaborate with engineering teams on debugging, analysis, and system improvements. This is a hands-on position that requires strong electro-mechanical skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and execute battery tests following engineering test outlines and procedures
- Instrument battery assemblies and test fixtures to enable accurate data acquisition
- Collect, document, and share test results with engineering teams for analysis
- Assemble and build test samples
- Perform test execution and post-test teardowns, including failure analysis
- Travel (~35%) to off-site testing facilities as required
- Fabricate test fixtures and prototype components as needed
- Troubleshoot and repair complex electro-mechanical systems
- Suggest and implement process improvements based on test outcomes
- Operate test instruments such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, ohm testers, DAQs, and bidirectional converters
- Maintain organized records of test setups, configurations, and outcomes
- Support integration of battery systems into full robot platforms
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to refine test methods
Requirements:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in testing, validation, or R&D support
- Experience with high-voltage systems and a strong understanding of safety protocols
- Proficiency in battery pack assembly, testing procedures, and basic failure analysis
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics with the ability to troubleshoot circuits
- Hands-on experience with soldering, crimping, and wire harness assembly
- Proficiency with test instruments (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, DAQs)
- Strong documentation and reporting skills
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Willingness to travel to test facilities and work in hands-on environments
Bonus Qualifications:
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certification for cable and harness assemblies
- Familiarity with certification testing such as UL 2271 and UN 38.3 requirements for lithium-ion batteries
- Certification in Dangerous Goods handling or transportation
- Experience with battery safety and abuse testing
The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $35 - $55/hr.
The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional components/benefits depending on the specific role. This information will be shared if an employment offer is extended.
