Principal Level Designer - Design - Studio

Role Overview:

We are looking for a Principal Level Designer to work on a dark, story-driven 'Narrative Adventure' with genre defining goals. This huge, highly ambitious project takes atmosphere, storytelling, player agency and narrative firmly into ground-breaking territory on next-generation hardware technologies.

This project has AAA ambitions with a heavy focus on art, animation and delivering unique character performances to heighten player presence and immersion to new levels.

You will take ownership of parts of our world, working directly with the Lead Level Designer, the Level Design Team, Narrative team and the Directors. This is a great opportunity for an ambitious individual looking for their next challenge giving you a chance to improve the core, moment-to-moment gameplay, define the play spaces and see the game through to completion.

Ideally we would love individuals to be based in the studio for 1-3 days per week, but we may consider those who have a preference for remote working in the UK.

What you'll be doing:

  • Create outstanding gameplay spaces that supports and improves the narrative, core mechanics and creative vision of the game.
  • Develop and iterate level designs through close collaboration with Artists, Game Design, Narrative and other teams.
  • Play an additive part of all major Level Design decisions on a AAA game.
  • Create outstanding documentation and reference materials for levels.
  • Pro-actively identify and raise upcoming issues on behalf of the team to the Level Design Lead.
  • Help review levels as they are constructed and give feedback to the other team members to ensure consistency and a high quality across the entire game.
  • Review the tools and pipelines and look for improvements in efficiency.
  • Mentor other Level Designers on the team.

  • Passionate about delivering the very best player experience.
  • Exceptional creativity and design skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both to Directors and to team members.
  • In-depth knowledge of Level Design theory and best practices.
  • Energetic and positive attitude.
  • Pro-active communication.
  • Strong Unreal 5 experience is beneficial.
  • Significant professional game development experience with an impressive portfolio.
