
Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Officer
First National Bank of America is seeking a Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Officer who reports directly to the Chief Risk Officer. This position is responsible for developing, implementing and administering all aspects of the Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Program in the area of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA Patriot Act, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and Customer Identification Program (CIP) compliance.
The BSA Officer serves as our go-to authority on BSA/AML/OFAC regulations. This position will manage and inspire a team of compliance professionals and will develop and conduct comprehensive training programs for employees. The BSA Officer will work closely with senior management and key stakeholders to ensure compliance, as well as prepare and present insightful reports to senior management and the board of directors. Furthermore, this position is also responsible for leveraging technology to streamline BSA processes and reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Advise the Chief Risk Officer, Senior Management, and Bank personnel on emerging BSA/AML, OFAC, and CIP compliance risks, recommending and guiding the implementation of effective controls to mitigate exposure
- Provide leadership and direct management of the BSA department, including supervision of the BSA Supervisor, staff development, training, workflow coordination, and ensuring adequate coverage across functional areas
- Serve as Chair of the Bank’s BSA Committee and act as a key liaison between compliance, business units, senior leadership, auditors, and regulatory agencies
- Develop, review, and maintain BSA, AML, OFAC, and CIP policies and procedures; prepare and present annual reports and compliance recommendations to Senior Management and the Board of Directors
- Maintain expert‑level knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, and OFAC requirements, ensuring consistent adherence across the organization
- Oversee and approve SARs, CTRs, exempt person filings, high‑risk customer monitoring, and OFAC/FedCEN 314(a) alerts, ensuring timely, accurate documentation and regulatory reporting
- Lead audit and examination readiness efforts, including coordinating responses to regulators and external auditors, tracking findings, and ensuring timely remediation of identified issues
- Promote a strong culture of compliance through effective decision‑making, employee training (including new hire orientation and annual BSA training), cross‑training initiatives, and ongoing staff mentorship and development
Qualifications:
- Prior experience with BSA, AML, and related regulatory requirements, including a working knowledge of deposit and lending compliance
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising and managing staff
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to courtesy, professionalism, and excellent customer service; ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and regulators using standard telecommunications and computer equipment
- Ability to work productively in a busy office environment, including sitting or standing for extended periods while maintaining focus and efficiency
