Flight Itinerary (About The Role)

To achieve this vision, we’re looking for a Staff Cloud FinOps Analyst to provide visibility and forecasting on FLYR’s cloud spend that allows data-driven decision-making by R&D leadership.   

In this role, you will provide insight across FLYR’s entire portfolio of products and our cloud vendors, provide forward-looking forecasts to stakeholders, and collaborate closely with engineering teams to drive visibility into the cloud costs of our products, services, and AI workloads. This role partners closely with software architects and cloud infrastructure engineers to provide development teams with actionable insights on their products.  

This role is ideal for an analyst or engineer who is curious about cloud computing, loves data, and is passionate about driving business outcomes from data insights. 

You will report directly to the VP of Engineering.

What Your Journey Will Look Like (Responsibilities)

  • Provide regular reporting on spend across FLYR’s entire portfolio of products and our multiple cloud vendors.  
  • Drive visibility to Product and Engineering/DS Leadership on the marginal cloud costs of product features and AI workloads. Collaborate with product owners, data scientists, and software architects to identify and report on metered usage Cloud service spend, providing cost visibility against specific AI model training activities, product features, and R&D efforts. 
  • Define classification frameworks and set standards for software development and infrastructure teams on resource labeling.
  • Drive efficiency in FLYR’s cloud spend.  Provide R&D with visibility on potential cost-saving opportunities.  
  • Engage regularly with our Cloud vendors on cost optimization activities, understand vendor incentives, and identify opportunities for commitment-based discounting.   
  • Provide forward-looking Cloud spend forecasts to stakeholders. Build Cloud spend forecasting models that project Spend incorporating Sales forecasts and R&D investments.

What To Pack For This Trip (Qualifications)

  • Data Analysis Skills: Proficient in SQL with a strong background in exploratory data analysis on billing and service usage data.
  • Experience in exploratory data analysis and reporting against time series data held in a Cloud data warehouse.  
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Looker, Data Studio, and others.  Ability to develop summary, drill-down, and trend-reporting dashboards for various audiences.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet-based analysis. Comfortable in Excel/Google Sheets.   
  • Familiarity and interest in the DevOps and Cloud Infrastructure domain. Understanding of key concepts of Cloud Computing and IT infrastructure.   
  • Significant account administration and billing analysis exposure on at least one major public cloud vendor (AWS, Azure, GCP), with a preference given to experience and familiarity with the Google Cloud Platform.
  • Ability to partner with engineering managers and software architects.
  • Skills in working across multiple teams to drive business value. 
  • Strong and effective conversational and written skills in English.
