Forbes Vetted is seeking a Deputy Editor to join our growing ecommerce editorial team. The role will be responsible for managing a team of commerce writers and editors. Working in close collaboration with the site’s section editors (who cover topics including Parenting, Consumer Tech, Gear, Mattress & Sleep, Home & Kitchen, Fashion, Beauty and Travel), this role will be responsible for supporting content creation and strategy across the site. Forbes Vetted content includes product guides, roundups, retailer news, tested product reviews, product/brand comparison posts, how-tos and product odes. The ideal candidate is an experienced editor with prior experience managing people as well as creating commerce content about products and product recommendations. This role reports to the Forbes Vetted Executive Editor. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team (which includes a mix of editorial assistants, commerce writers and commerce editors) to create high-quality content that meets revenue and brand goals 
  • Work to ensure your team effectively supports and collaborates other writers and editors across the organization though efficient workflows, tools, processes and best practices
  • Mentor your junior staff and facilitate career development at all levels within your team
  • Ensure the highest editorial quality within your team through regular top edits, ongoing content reviews, 1:1s and coaching so Forbes Vetted continues to publish best-in-class content 
  • Act as a support/pick-up editor as needed for overflow content across Forbes Vetted
  • As time allows, occasionally write and edit your own articles; perform hands-on testing, research and interviews to craft high-quality content that Forbes Vetted readers can confidently rely on to make purchase decisions
  • Participate in coverage for select high-priority sales events throughout the year, including shifts over holiday weekends like Memorial Day, Labor Day and Black Friday/Cyber Monday
  • Collaborate across teams, including with strategy, data, audience development, partnerships and product, as well as other editors and writers on staff
  • Participate in virtual team meetings and contribute to Forbes Vetted’s positive, friendly culture
  • Work with the business and SEO team as needed to ensure content is fully optimized for search

The ideal candidate:

  • Has 7+ years of experience and expertise writing and editing commerce editorial content in two or more of the following categories: Parenting, Consumer Electronics & Tech, Gear, Mattress & Sleep, Home & Kitchen, Fashion, Beauty & Grooming and Travel
  • Has 3+ years managing an editorial team of writers and/or editors at different levels in their careers
  • Has impeccable writing, editing and reporting skills and access to a network of PR contacts across key areas of Forbes Vetted coverage
  • Has a strong understanding of SEO best practices, plus prior experience with commerce writing and affiliate strategy; experience with hands-on product testing a huge plus
  • Is user-focused and understands editorial independence, but can deftly balance this with the needs of the business 
  • Is a team player who can multitask and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
  • Is eager to innovate and experiment editorially to help grow the Forbes Vetted audience

The annual base salary range for this role is $110,000 - $115,000.

Forbes has estimated the compensation range set forth above in good faith.  The compensation range is what we believe we will offer, and ultimately pay, a successful candidate.  In determining this range, we consider the experience, level of education (if applicable to the role), knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be had by a successful candidate as well as the budget and the company’s pay rates, generally.
