Job Summary:

Fortis Fire & Safety's Schaumburg, IL team is seeking a motivated and analytically driven Analyst Intern to support initiatives across Finance and Operations. This is a highly visible, hands-on, paid full-time summer internship open to rising Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Analytics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field and is based on-site five days per week at our Schaumburg, IL headquarters.

The role sits at the intersection of FP&A, Accounting, Field Operations, Service, and Integration designed for a student who wants to learn how a private-equity-backed platform company actually runs, from the income statement down to the truck. You will gain direct exposure to senior leaders across Finance, Operations, and the executive team, a front-row seat to a live buy-and-build thesis (how acquisitions get integrated, how synergies get measured, and how a national platform gets built from regional operators) as well as hands-on development of advanced Excel, analytical, and business communication skills. You will leave with a portfolio of real deliverables (models, dashboards, and memos) that you can reference in future interviews.

You will rotate your time across a portfolio of real business problems, partnering with leaders to identify efficiencies, build decision-support tools, analyze performance data, and translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations. You will work closely with Finance and Operations leadership to strengthen analytical capabilities and drive platform-wide improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain Excel-based analytical tools, models, and dashboards that support budgeting, forecasting, KPI tracking, job costing, service profitability, and operational reporting across Fortis business units.
  • Partner with Finance on month-end and ad hoc analysis including revenue and margin variance, labor productivity, overtime trends, gross margin by service line (inspection, service, installation, monitoring, alarm, sprinkler, suppression), and working capital metrics.
  • Support Operations leadership in identifying efficiencies by analyzing technician utilization, route density, first-time-fix rates, inspection completion, backlog, and truck/inventory turnover — then translating findings into recommendations that field leaders can act on.
  • Gather, clean, and reconcile data from multiple source systems (ERP, field service management, CRM, timekeeping, and legacy platforms inherited from acquired companies) to create a single, trusted view of performance.
  • Assist with integration workstreams for newly acquired branches, including mapping charts of accounts, standardizing KPIs, and helping migrate reporting into the Fortis framework.
  • Develop clear deliverables for leadership — one-page memos, executive dashboards, and concise PowerPoint summaries that tell the story behind the numbers.
  • Document processes and build repeatable templates to be utilized across branches.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings with Finance, Operations, IT, and branch leadership, and present findings and recommendations directly to managers and, where appropriate, executive leadership.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's program in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Analytics, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 or equivalent academic standing.
  • Strong Excel skills - comfortable with pivot tables, XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS, conditional formatting, and basic modeling best practices (clean inputs, readable outputs, no hard-coded formulas in calculation cells).
  • Solid grounding in financial statements and core accounting concepts; able to read a P&L and understand how operational decisions flow through to margin.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with clear written and verbal communication.
  • High attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and the drive to understand not just what the data shows, but why.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable managing multiple workstreams with limited supervision in a fast-paced, PE-backed environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to Power Query, Power BI, Tableau, or SQL.
  • Familiarity with financial modeling (three-statement, operating, or driver-based models).
  • Prior internship experience in FP&A, consulting, investment banking, private equity, corporate development, operations, or a field-services/industrial/construction business.
  • Interest in private equity value creation, operational improvement, M&A integration, or the built-environment services sector (fire protection, life safety, security, HVAC, mechanical, or electrical).
  • Experience working with ERP or field service management platforms such as Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, ServiceTrade, BuildOps, or similar.

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
