Software Engineering Manager

The Software Engineering Manager leads a high-performing team to design, build, and scale the Four Hands e-commerce platform, combining people leadership with technical strategy and execution. This role partners closely with digital, product, and cross-functional teams to align technology solutions with business goals and ensure timely delivery. As a hands-on leader, the ideal candidate drives architectural decisions and modern development practices to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions that support company growth.
In This Role:
- Lead and deliver multiple concurrent initiatives across a fast-paced evolving e-commerce roadmap, balancing priorities while ensuring consistent, high-quality execution
- Partner with Product and Project Management to align priorities, clarify requirements, and ensure on-time delivery of impactful solutions
- Contribute to and help define the technical vision and long-term strategy for our e-commerce ecosystem, aligning architecture with company growth initiatives
- Bring a strong, informed perspective on modern architectures, tools, and development practices, guiding teams toward scalable, maintainable solutions
- Actively participate in architecture and key technical decisions, ensuring systems are performant, resilient, and aligned with best practices
- Evaluate and guide adoption of new technologies that improve scalability, speed, and developer experience
- Remove blockers, streamline processes, and create clarity in ambiguous or complex situations to keep teams moving efficiently
- Uphold and champion high standards for code quality, system design, testing and performance, leading by example through hands-on involvement when needed
- Collaborate with Product, UX, and business stakeholders to translate needs, ensuring solutions are aligned with customer experience and business outcomes
- Partner with broader IT and platform teams to ensure seamless integration, reliability, and consistency across systems and services

Leadership and Team Management
- Supervise and lead employee(s), with accountability for performance, development, and delivery outcomes
- Provide ongoing coaching, targeted training, and mentorship to develop team members’ capabilities, ensuring skills and knowledge align with role expectations and evolving business needs
- Monitor team performance, provide constructive feedback, and ensure alignment with company standards and expectations
- Promote a positive and collaborative team environment, encouraging employee engagement and teamwork
- Foster strong communication within the team, ensuring clarity of roles, expectations, and goals
- Identify and address skill gaps or performance issues promptly, implementing development opportunities and support plans as needed
- Encourage innovation by involving team members in problem-solving and process improvement initiatives
The Ideal Person
- 10+ years proven experience in software development, with a focus on ecommerce and customer-facing platforms and technologies
- 5+ years proven experience leading and motivating engineering teams, with a track record of building strong, engaged, and high-performing groups
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Hands-on experience with web technologies (JavaScript, Node.js, modern frameworks) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Experience with agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps)
- Strong technical background with a clear point of view on modern development approaches (e.g., composable architecture, API-first, cloud-native)
- Experience operating in environments with multiple moving projects and shifting priorities
- Demonstrated ability to scale a team - hiring, structuring, and evolving it over time
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate between technical and non-technical audiences
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality, scalable software solutions on time and within budget
