We are seeking an experienced Sales Tax Compliance Manager to join our growing State and Local Tax (SALT) practice. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical sales tax expertise with client service, process ownership, technology, and team leadership.  You will play a key role in leading and continuing to build our sales tax compliance practice, overseeing the end-to-end compliance process for a portfolio of clients while identifying opportunities to strengthen processes, improve efficiency, and scale our capabilities.

You will be primarily focused on sales tax compliance, with opportunities to contribute to broader sales tax consulting engagements, including nexus reviews, taxability analyses, notice resolution, and other advisory projects.  This position offers significant opportunity for client interaction, leadership, practice development, and long-term career growth within a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the end-to-end sales and use tax compliance process for multiple clients across various jurisdictions.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax return cycles, ensuring accurate and timely preparation, review, filing, and payment.
  • Review sales tax returns, supporting schedules, reconciliations, and workpapers for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate the complete monthly compliance process, including client data requests, follow-up, data validation, return preparation, filing, payments, and documentation.
  • Maintain oversight of filing calendars, deadlines, client accounts, registrations, and compliance requirements.
  • Manage sales tax registrations and related state and local account matters.
  • Provide sales tax research and consulting support, including nexus analyses, taxability determinations, and taxability matrices, as capacity allows.
  • Identify compliance issues, risks, and opportunities and collaborate with SALT leadership on appropriate solutions.
  • Help develop and grow the firm's sales tax compliance capabilities, including scalable processes, procedures, tools, and quality-control standards.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline recurring compliance workflows through technology, automation, and improved data management.
  • Supervise, review, and support team members involved in sales tax compliance engagements.
  • Provide coaching and technical guidance to help develop team members' sales tax knowledge and compliance capabilities.
  • Manage multiple client engagements, recurring deadlines, and competing priorities while maintaining high standards for quality and client service.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA, JD, CMI or Enrolled Agent preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive sales and use tax experience, with meaningful hands-on experience managing sales tax compliance processes.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing multi-jurisdictional sales and use tax returns.
  • Strong understanding of the sales tax compliance lifecycle, including registrations, filing requirements, payments, notices, account maintenance, and documentation.
  • Experience managing multiple clients, engagements, and recurring filing deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical tax matters to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Excel and experience working with sales tax compliance software, tax engines, or related technology platforms.
  • Ability to succeed in a collaborative, entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment.
