FC Freezer Lead - C03, IC
Our Opportunity:
We are looking for a Freezer Fulfillment Center (FC) Lead to join our dynamic cold chain operation at Ocala, FL! This individual will be a change agent who thrives on operational details, adapts quickly to a cold storage environment, and fosters positive relationships with hourly Team Members. The Freezer Lead will support a team responsible for handling frozen inventory, including exotic and sensitive items—in a fast-paced, high-volume e-commerce setting.
What You’ll Do:
- Support Area Managers in driving operational performance and engagement
- Promote and maintain a safe, clean, and compliant cold storage environment, including accurate handling of dry ice and frozen exotic items (e.g., feeder animals)
- Ensure achievement of daily operational goals, focusing on cold chain compliance and order accuracy
- Conduct food safety audits and inventory checks at the time of product receipt
- Lead shift startup in the absence of Area Managers, ensuring alignment on headcount, priorities, and safety
- Flex across processes including receiving, putaway, replenishment, picking, packing, staging, cycle counting, and shipping
- Coach, mentor, train, and develop Team Members for performance and career growth in a physically demanding, cold environment
- Serve as a cultural ambassador, modeling Chewy’s operating principles, ethics, and integrity
- Act as a liaison between hourly associates and leadership, ensuring two-way communication and engagement
- Thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving e-commerce environment with temperature-controlled product requirements
- Collaborate with site leadership to identify and implement freezer-specific and network-wide standard processes
- Foster a positive and inclusive team dynamic that encourages feedback, adapts to change, and keeps the customer experience top of mind
- Use tools including the Warehouse Management System (WMS), Chewy Labor Management System (CLMS), Tableau, and Smartsheet to track performance and make data-informed decisions
What You’ll Need:
- External candidates: 1+ years of formal people leadership experience in operations, logistics, or a fast-paced environment—freezer or cold chain experience preferred
- Internal candidates: Minimum of 3+ months of demonstrated informal leadership (e.g., peer mentoring, project ownership, or training others) in a high-performance setting. Must be in good standing with the company
- Passion for working in a cold storage environment and enthusiasm for contributing to an evolving business line
- Comfort handling frozen goods, dry ice, and exotic animal products with appropriate safety and emotional awareness
- Ability to work in sub-zero temperatures with proper cold storage PPE for extended periods
- Data-driven approach with a focus on metrics, continuous improvement, and quality
- Customer-obsessed attitude with a strong dedication to service excellence
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence across teams and levels
- Proven ability to adapt quickly and deliver results using data and insights
- Unwavering integrity and high ethical standards
- Flexibility to adjust schedule as needed
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
Physical job requirements:
- Walk up to 2 miles per shift.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently lift up to 70 pounds using an optional team lift.
- Rarely lift greater than 70+ pounds using a team lift.
- Stand, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel.
- Climb up and down stairs (where applicable).
