Power BI Enablement Specialist
Title: Power BI Enablement Specialist
Location: St. Louis, MO
Company: Fortune 100 Food & Beverage Manufacturing (FuseGlobal has worked with this company for 20 years)
Initial term: 6 months (position expected to renew long-term)
Schedule: M-Th onsite; Fridays remote
About This Role:
The Technology Engagement Center (TEC) at Nestlé Purina is a hands-on, people-first hub dedicated to helping associates adopt Microsoft 365, Copilot, Power Platform, and other emerging technologies. As a TEC Specialist focused on Power BI enablement, you will serve as a trusted in-house coach and consultant—helping business users build strong analytical habits, develop effective Power BI solutions, and grow their confidence with data.
This role is not about delivering production solutions for the business. It is about enablement: guiding associates through discovering, modeling, visualizing, and publishing best practices so they can build and own their own reports and dashboards. You’ll blend strong Power BI + Excel skills with a talent for teaching and translating business questions into clear analytical outcomes.
What You'll Do:
Common Responsibilities (all-team)
- Facilitate discovery sessions, product demos, consultations, and interactive training on Microsoft 365 Copilot, Power Platform, and other available technology products.
- Coach associates in using Copilot and AI-assisted features to improve productivity, automate workflows, and accelerate knowledge work.
- Stay current on Microsoft 365, Copilot, and Power Platform feature updates and translate changes into practical guidance for associates.
- Provide ad-hoc support and troubleshooting during associates’ technology adoption journeys, with a strong focus on teach-back and skill transfer.
- Deliver engaging, well-structured training sessions and demonstrations tailored to novice through advanced audiences.
- Maintain clear, up-to-date documentation of support interactions, solutions, and best practices.
- Support and grow the Citizen Developer community through community channels, office hours, and learning sessions.
- Greet and assist walk-in visitors in the on-campus TEC Lab with professional, timely support.
- Assist with curation and maintenance of TEC resources and digital content.
- Engage in continuous learning and knowledge sharing with TEC teammates and partner SMEs.
Role-Specific Responsibilities (Power BI Enablement)
- Provide beginner-to-advanced instruction (1:1 and group) on Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Service, including publish/share patterns, compliance expectations (privacy levels, Nestlé policies), and governance-friendly practices (e.g., approved storage locations, documenting data sources, and establishing a backup owner).
- Coach associates on analytical problem framing: clarifying the business question, defining metrics, and selecting appropriate visual and storytelling approaches.
- Enable strong data modeling fundamentals: star schema concepts, relationships, grain, and reusable semantic models (datasets) where appropriate.
- Teach and troubleshoot Power Query and data shaping patterns (both in Power BI and Excel), including data quality checks and refresh considerations.
- Coach associates on using Copilot and AI-assisted features (where approved) to troubleshoot issues and accelerate authoring of Power Query transformations and DAX measures, with a focus on explaining the “why” behind the output.
- Stay current with Power BI feature updates and roadmap changes; translate what’s new into practical guidance, internal tips/office-hour topics, and recommended adoption patterns for associates (in alignment with TEC and internal governance guidance).
- Assist associates with identifying and accessing suitable, approved data sources; help connect them with data owners/SMEs and clarify source-of-truth, definitions, and refresh expectations before report buildout.
- Support DAX fundamentals through advanced patterns (measures, filter context, time intelligence) with an emphasis on readability and maintainability.
- Review existing user-built reports/dashboards to identify upskilling opportunities, performance issues, and design improvements; provide actionable coaching feedback.
- Develop and maintain enablement assets (quick-start guides, templates, sample PBIX, best-practice checklists) aligned to internal standards and the broader Power BI community.
- Host recurring Power BI office hours / clinics to unblock users and reinforce best practices.
- Partner with broader analytics and Power BI community/CoE efforts to amplify standardization, training, and community support.
What You Bring:
- Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, modern formulas (e.g., XLOOKUP), data cleansing, and comfort with Power Query; experience translating messy data into analysis-ready structures.
- Strong Power BI experience building and explaining end-to-end solutions: ingest → transform → model → DAX measures → report design → publish/share.
- Solid understanding of data modeling concepts (relationships, star schema, dimensional thinking, grain) and how they impact report performance and usability.
- Demonstrated data analysis capability: defining KPIs/metrics, validating results, and communicating insights clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Proven experience teaching, coaching, or enabling others (formal training, office hours, documentation, or mentoring) with a focus on skill transfer.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to lead outcome-focused sessions with individuals and groups.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; able to diagnose modeling, DAX, or report design issues and guide users to resolution.
- Working proficiency with Microsoft 365 core tools (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, PowerPoint) to deliver training and support at scale.
Bonus Points:
- Experience with Power BI governance and deployment concepts (workspaces, apps, refresh strategies, Row-Level Security), and comfort operating within enterprise guardrails.
- Familiarity with the broader Power Platform (Power Apps and Power Automate) and how BI integrates into citizen-built solutions.
- Basic SQL knowledge for data extraction/validation and effective collaboration with data owners.
- Experience creating reusable enablement assets (templates, standards, playbooks) and managing knowledge content.
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric or related capacity/performance considerations.
Compensation & Benefits:
- $55.50 per hour + overtime
- Medical insurance
- Dental insurance
- Vision insurance
- 401(k)
- Disability insurance
