Who You Are:
Galaxy is seeking a Director of Compliance to join a small team working on an exciting new business initiative. You will help lead the company’s compliance strategy and execution, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies across all products. This role will work closely with executive leadership, legal counsel, and product teams to build and maintain a scalable, risk-based compliance framework that supports innovation while managing regulatory obligations. The Director of Compliance will build relationships with the company’s partner bank and other critical partners, ensuring compliance expectations are met and aligned across all stakeholders. This is a high-impact role suited for a collaborative leader who can translate complex regulations into practical, business-aligned solutions.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive, risk-based compliance program aligned with applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Serve as a compliance liaison with the company’s partner bank and other critical partners, ensuring clear communication and alignment on regulatory expectations and obligations.
- Advise senior leadership on compliance risks, regulatory developments, and strategic implications.
- Lead internal compliance reviews, audits, and monitoring activities to ensure adherence to policies and controls.
- Maintain and enhance policies, procedures, and training programs to promote a strong culture of compliance throughout the organization.
- Monitor regulatory changes and emerging risks, and proactively adapt the compliance framework to address them.
- Collaborate with legal, product, operations, and engineering teams to ensure compliance is embedded into product development and business operations.
- Oversee the handling and resolution of regulatory and legal inquiries as well as internal investigations.
- Manage required bank partner filings and reporting, as applicable.
- Represent the company in discussions with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders as needed.
- Lead and grow a high-performing compliance team, fostering continuous improvement and operational excellence.
What We’re Looking For:
- 10+ years of experience in compliance, legal, or risk management roles.
- 5+ years of compliance experience within a financial services or fintech company.
- Deep understanding of U.S. financial regulations, including but not limited to: BSA/AML, KYC, consumer protection laws, payments regulations, and data privacy requirements.
- Proven experience managing regulatory relationships and navigating complex compliance matters in partnership with a sponsor or partner bank.
- Demonstrated ability to build and scale compliance programs in fast-paced, high-growth companies.
- Experience working cross-functionally with legal, product, engineering, operations, and executive teams.
- Strong knowledge of compliance frameworks for digital banking, deposit products, brokerage services, and cryptocurrency.
- Track record of balancing regulatory risk with practical business needs in innovative or emerging product areas.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to boards, regulators, and external partners.
- Series 24.
- Bachelor’s degree required
Bonus Points:
- JD, CAMS, CRCM, or other relevant certifications strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with cryptocurrency-specific regulations, such as NYDFS, SEC, CFTC, and/or FATF guidelines.
- Experience working in a high-growth startup or technology-driven environment.
- Established relationships with regulatory bodies in key markets.
- Proficiency with compliance management tools or platforms.

The base salary ranges included below will be commensurate with candidate experience, expertise and local market. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise. At Galaxy, we maintain a total compensation philosophy which consists of a competitive base salary, annual bonus, and equity incentives.
Base Salary Range
$175,000 - $215,000 USD
