The role:

You will steward the 'building blocks' of modern fintech. Our APIs empower clients to build unique financial experiences, meaning your team's work directly powers the innovation of some of the world's largest fintechs. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader eager to grow their management career, partnering with senior leadership to enhance your management skills. As the engineering manager for the foundations API team, you will be responsible for leading a team to ensure the highest levels of availability, performance and security in delivering Galileo’s financial platform as a managed service to our business customers. The role requires an engineering leader who can dive into technical details with engineers on your team and across engineering. The key to Galileo’s managed platform is in the development and delivery of the various endpoints; the API foundations team makes that possible.

 What you’ll do: 

• Lead by example, care for the team and establish credibility with the quality of the team’s technical execution
• Build the foundation that will enable Galileo’s many engineering teams to deliver better quality products faster
• Nurture a culture of continuous improvement and blameless retrospectives  within your team
• Build and mentor a team of engineers, helping them succeed and grow their talents by exposing them to new challenges and experiences
• Drive deep technical discussions within your team and with others to ensure that Galileo continues to innovate
• Help the team stay on track by collaborating on benchmarks and milestones with them and your customers
• Work with other engineering managers to understand their challenges to identify areas where your team can drive all of Galileo forward.
• Share your team’s successes with Galileo’s engineering teams and management.
• Receive mentorship from senior engineering leaders to accelerate your own leadership journey and management capabilities.

What you’ll need:

• 2+ years of leadership experience mentoring and evaluating software engineers – for example, as a Tech Lead, Team Lead, or Associate Manager
• 5+ years of experience with enterprise software development in Python
• Ability to engage in technical and business discussions from both tactical and strategic viewpoints and leverage the technical insights of your senior engineers
• Experience with design and operation of cloud-based software as a service
• Experience with continuous delivery principles and techniques
• Ability to balance the delivery of business objectives while maintaining the technical platform’s quality
• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject or equivalent experience

Nice to have:

• Expertise building and deploying software in AWS including VPCs, ECS, and EKS
• Experience working in highly regulated environments such as banking or finance
• Significant hands-on experience with Java
• Fluency in Spanish
