Special Projects Engineer, Autonomous Systems
About Us
Are you ready to build the future of supply chain? At Gather AI, we're not just creating software; we're pioneering a new era of warehouse intelligence. We've developed a groundbreaking, vision-powered platform that uses autonomous drones and existing equipment to capture real-time data, completely digitizing workflows that have historically been manual and error-prone. This means facilities operate smarter, safer, and more efficiently, ultimately redefining "on-time, in full" delivery.
If you're looking for an opportunity to contribute to truly transformative technology and make a significant impact in a vital industry, Gather AI is the place for you. We're leading the charge in the rapidly evolving robotics industry, and we invite you to join us in reshaping the global supply chain, one intelligent warehouse at a time.
About You
We are looking for a talented engineer to accelerate our Material Handling Equipment project. Our ideal candidate has 5+ years of practical experience and a strong background or familiarity with robotics (state estimation, mathematics, etc.) from their degree program, enabling them to quickly contribute to and advance the program.
What You'll Do
- Take a central role in designing, implementing, and testing the vision hardware and software systems for our Material Handling Equipment. This includes developing software components to accurately determine vehicle/payload location, monitor system status, and manage inventory-related tasks.
- Collaborate with our remote team to refine and validate the design and functionality of the Material Handling Equipment software within our local offices.
- Facilitate the coding and deployment of this software onto a variety of hardware (forklift, AGV, etc.) platforms.
- Conduct on-site visits to early customer locations to test and validate system performance in real-world environments.
- Proactively exercise the application in real-world scenarios, identifying areas for architectural enhancement and implementing improvements to vehicle/pallet state estimation and task tracking logic/workflow screens.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to physical hardware that may impact software performance, such as advising on camera positioning or mitigating vibration problems.
- Work closely with the Material Handling Equipment team and our talented deployment engineering team to ensure that the product is delivering value to our customers.
What You'll Need
- Strong mathematical background, ideally with robotics experience including state estimation, computer vision, or other relevant complex/dynamic systems.
- Sufficient coding skills to hit the ground running, contribute efficiently to the project, and read/improve code. At least three to five years of experience (outside academia).
- Comfort with Linux/command-line tooling, remote debugging, etc.
- Pragmatic, fast, and attentive to detail.
- Strong and precise communication skills.
- Computer Science or Engineering degree (MS or PhD preferred).
- Able to work in the US.
- Willing to undertake required travel.
- Ability to work locally in Pittsburgh (resident or willing to relocate).
Bonus points for...
- Flexibility to work with different technologies; while not requiring an experienced app developer, a C++ background (or similar low-level language experience) is beneficial for producing performant code. Strong relevant mathematical background can substitute for prior robot state estimation experience.
- Familiarity with OS and Network Infrastructure.
- Experience with ROS, ROS2, or other robotics middleware.
Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation package will include equity
- Comprehensive health insurance
- Very flexible schedule
- Customized PTO
- Relocation assistance available
If this sounds like a good fit we'd love to meet you. Come help us change the world!
