Position Summary
Established in 2020, General Atlantic’s Life Sciences team is a leading investor in private and public therapeutics and drug development companies.
General Atlantic is looking to hire a Research Associate for the Life Sciences team. This position will have significant responsibility in conducting technical diligence and supporting deal evaluation with a primary focus on therapeutics and biotechnology opportunities. The Research Associate will focus on scientific, technical, and clinical due diligence, while also receiving exposure to broader investment processes. This is a two-year role with potential for continued growth and advancement based on performance and organizational needs.
Responsibilities
- Play a central role in asset, technology, company, and industry due diligence, with an emphasis on scientific evaluation, risk identification, and mitigation
- Develop informed hypotheses in multiple therapeutic areas and assets based on in-depth reviews of primary scientific literature, attendance of medical & scientific conferences, and input from diverse physician-scientists and opinion leaders
- Develop professional presentation materials that concisely synthesize technical diligence findings
- Engage directly with senior management of current and potential portfolio companies on scientific and technical topics
- Support more senior members of the team in deal evaluation and preparation of investment memos
- Effectively present investment theses to key stakeholders, including our global Investment Committee
- Collaborate with professionals across the firm and positively contribute to the overall culture
Qualifications
- 2-3+ years of experience in a life sciences, biotech, or scientific research role
- PhD in a human science required (molecular biology, genetics, biology, chemistry, etc.)
- Candidates with experience from buyside, sellside, consulting firms, research and development or experience at biotechnology companies are encouraged to apply
- Passion for reading and synthesizing scientific literature
- Ability to structure scientific due diligence and identify primary technical risks and opportunities
- Direct experience evaluating and interpreting clinical, genetic, and biochemical data strongly preferred
- Record of outstanding professional and academic achievement
- High energy level, strong communication skills, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for investing
- Desire to collaborate with colleagues throughout the firm globally
