⭐️ Genio Engineering Internship - Summer 2025 ⭐️
Your journey as an Engineer starts here!
At Genio, we’re on a mission to make learning more human. And we believe the best way to grow future talent is to invite them in. So, we’re launching our first ever Engineering Internship — designed to give emerging engineers real-world experience in a supportive, collaborative environment.
This isn’t your average summer internship. You won’t be stuck doing “intern work.” In this 4 week internship, you’ll be solving problems, shipping code, and learning from engineers who genuinely care about mentoring the next generation.
👥 Meet the team:
Technology at Genio is a cross-functional function made of Engineering, Product, Product Marketing, User Experience, Customer Experience and Data. This filters down to our product squads where we have at least one team member from each discipline working together to build the best product for our users and customers.
You’ll be working alongside our four stream-aligned squads; Buyer Admin & Distribute (known internally as BEAR), Note-taking (known internally as GOAT), Learning (known internally as Egg) or Buyer HE solution.
You’ll be managed by one of the Engineering Line Managers;
Natasha (owner of dog Bailey), Bruce (a man with a large vocabulary), Charlene (owner of dog Spud), or Mark (Nomad policy champion, Genio Pride Organiser) who are either Engineering Managers, Software Engineers or Platform Engineers themselves.
Mala is our Head of Engineering, if you’d like to know more about joining Genio, you can hear about her onboarding here.
💪 What you’ll be doing:
Coding – Write clean, testable code with support from experienced engineers, contributing to real product features.
Debugging – Get hands-on with identifying and fixing bugs, using tools and techniques you'll learn on the job.
Testing – Write and run unit tests to help ensure the quality and stability of your code.
Collaborating – Work alongside engineers, product managers, designers, and testers to bring ideas to life.
Learning – Join code reviews, take part in pair programming, and seek feedback to sharpen your skills.
Problem-Solving – Tackle real technical challenges with the help of documentation, mentorship, and a curious mindset.
Growing – Build confidence with tools, languages, and frameworks we use at Genio — and discover what kind of engineer you want to be.
Participating – Join squad ceremonies like stand-ups and retrospectives, becoming a full member of the team.

We’re not expecting you to know it all - but we’d love to see:

🧩 What makes you a great fit:

You're curious, eager to learn, and open to feedback.

You can explain your thinking clearly, even if you're still learning.
You’re available from 11th August to 5th September.
🏢 Location:
We have a beautiful office space in Leeds and we love it when we get together to collaborate in person. We typically operate a hybrid way of working, which means you would work in the office about 2 days a week and remotely the rest of the time. However we’d be willing to consider how to make it work for someone who can’t get to Leeds as regularly as that, though some office visits would be expected.
We will discuss ways of working with you at interview however if you have any questions before you apply please reach out to recruitment@Genio.co
💰Salary and support:
The internship is paid - £2,000 for the full 4 week programme, based on full time working hours (37.5 hours per week). If you’re working part time hours, the amount will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis. Please talk to us about your preferred working pattern.
🚝Travel costs to our Leeds office may be reimbursed - we’ll confirm details at offer stage.
⏰ What the process looks like:
Here’s an overview of what to expect, including deadlines for each stage of the application process. This helps us manage applications and ensure everyone receives feedback either way:
1. Application Review - Send us your CV and answers to application questions so we can get a sense of your motivation, curiosity and technical experience. We know AI tools are everywhere — but we’d love to hear your voice. The application questions aren’t about perfect phrasing or technical jargon — they’re here to help us get to know you.
Deadline for Applications: Friday 11th July 2025
2. Video Assessment - If your application is successful, we’ll invite you to submit a short video answering a few questions (which you’ll receive in advance!).
Deadline for Video Submission: Friday 18th July 2025
3. Technical Task - Next, you’ll complete a small task that helps us understand how you approach real-world challenges. Don’t worry it’s designed to be supportive - not scary!
Deadline for Task Submission: Friday 25th July 2025
4. Final stage Interview - You’ll meet with members of the engineering team and EX team on a video call for an informal interview where the questions will relate to how you approached the task, your learning style and what you’re hoping to get out of the internship.
We aim to get back to final shortlisted candidates by Friday 1st August 2025, with an anticipated start date of Monday 11th August 2025.
Ahead of each stage, you’ll receive a confirmation email outlining who you’ll be meeting and when, anything you’ll need to prepare in advance and any resources we think you might find helpful.
