We are seeking a Head of Legal, Risk & Compliance to lead Built’s legal, enterprise risk and compliance, and procurement process with a strategic, commercial mindset. This is a high-impact opportunity to own all aspects of legal at a fast-growing, venture-backed company at the intersection of fintech, proptech, and SaaS - merging together complex client needs, business models, and risk management. This is not a “black-and-white” legal job. We are looking for a business-first risk advisor who thrives in ambiguity, pushes for optimal outcomes in negotiations, and builds scalable legal infrastructure that enables growth.

You’ll be a member of the senior leadership team and report to the CFO, acting as a key advisor to leadership, helping guide our contracting strategy, managing legal risk, supporting M&A, and ensuring compliance, all with a strong bias for action and potential for greater scope

Legal & Commercial Contracting

  • Lead all client, partner, and vendor contracting - including enterprise SaaS and services, data, and payment-processing agreements.
  • Develop systems and processes that balance speed, risk, and commercial acceleration - enabling swift and clear decision support for operational counterparts and leadership.
  • Personally step into high-stakes negotiations with banks, financial institutions, and enterprise clients.

Enterprise Enablement & Stewardship

  • Partner with People leadership and outside counsel on employment law matters, including policies, multi-state compliance, investigations, and sensitive employee issues.
  • Oversee protection and management of Built’s IP, including software, data rights, trademarks, and licensing terms in client/vendor agreements.
  • Manage litigation strategy and dispute resolution in partnership with outside counsel, ensuring alignment with business and risk priorities.
  • Monitor regulatory developments in fintech, payments, privacy, and AI; advise leadership on implications and represent Built with regulators and industry bodies as needed.
  • Oversee corporate insurance programs (cyber, D&O, E&O, liability) as part of the broader enterprise risk management framework.
  • Oversee equity administration and management at Built, including equity approval processes and board consents in partnership with our People and Finance functions.

Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) Leadership

  • Own enterprise governance, risk, and compliance (GRC), including oversight of our compliance function, SOC 2 and similar compliance frameworks.
  • Build out privacy/data programs to ensure commercial adoption and risk management.
  • Oversee client due diligence processes and compliance with financial institution standards.
  • Stand up policies for AI use, responding to emerging use cases and internal opportunities to safely accelerate our pace of delivery.
  • Guide decision support on payments and funds disbursement practices for regulatory compliance and payment partner requirements, making payments compliance a differentiator for Built.
  • Build out and oversee Built’s enterprise risk management (ERM) practice, acting as a risk advisor - framing decisions, tradeoffs, and policy recommendations.

Corporate & Board Management

  • Manage corporate governance and board processes in coordination with external counsel, building Built’s sophistication and future-proofing future corporate evolutions.
  • Aid in the drafting and review of Board of Directors materials, governance materials, and aid in the consistent improvement of our Board practices at Built.
  • Support M&A and partnership activity alongside Corporate Development, leading legal due diligence, agreement drafting in coordination with outside counsel, and contribute to negotiation strategy.
  • Prepare the company for future evolutions including potential capital raises, IPO-readiness, and other transaction types.
  • Manage external counsel across corporate, contract, and employment firms.

Procurement Oversight

  • Oversee our end-to-end procurement process, coordinating corporate functions to deliver a seamless experience that manages cost, risk, and enablement.
  • Lead select high-stakes negotiations and vendor contracting.
  • Establish standardized vendor management policies that scale with enterprise expectations.

Role Requirements

  • Prior role as a Deputy GC or #2 legal leader in a growth-stage SaaS or fintech company or comparable at a law firm.

  • Exposure to M&A deal execution and integration.

Nice to Have

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
