DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Our engineering organization is comprised of four primary departments: Current Product Engineering (CPE), New Product Engineering (NPE), Product Validation, and the Colorado Technology Center (CTC).
Validation Engineering:
The Validation Engineering Team is vital in delivering the best-in-class transit buses through rigorously testing Components, Systems and Vehicles to internal and external requirements. These efforts focus primarily on:
- Development of requirements, test procedures and reports
- Vehicle preparation and instrumentation
- Support testing efforts in the laboratory or the field
- Collecting and analyzing data using serial data, eDAQ and direct measurements
- Ensuring all Regulatory and Emissions requirements are met
- In house and supplier software is developed and tested in a Bench environment prior to release
- Finite Element Analysis and simulation
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated FEA professional to lead and mentor the team at GILLIG. One whose is focused on developing best-in-class vehicles with the industry’s highest reliability and quality targets. Someone that is a great problem solver and has a passion for product improvements. The correct individual will be directly responsible for supporting the continued development of GILLIG’s in-house simulation capabilities.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
- Lead the infrastructure development and establish a framework for MBD, FEA and CFD modeling tool suites which will allow GILLIG to bring this expertise in-house
- Work with Sr. leadership to ensure expectations are in alignment, work within budgetary constraints and set direction for immediate imperatives vs future growth
- Lead projects with responsibility for running simulations on programs and developing and improving MBD, FEA and CFD models
- Perform Modal and Vibration Induced Fatigue Analysis of simple and complex systems and vehicles
- Corelate models with test data to develop and identify realistic boundary conditions
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with teams on problems that are challenging to solve and that may require innovative solutions
- Demonstrated ability to deliver analysis on challenging projects with sometimes tight timing constraints
- Perform advanced CAE simulations to evaluate and improve vehicle, systems, and component level performance as needed
- Document and contextualize simulation results for Program and Engineering Leadership, providing detailed analysis reports as well as making design change recommendations based on simulation results
- Lead consulting design review meetings aimed at providing guidance on critical design decisions
- Performs other duties as required
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or other Engineering discipline preferred. Master’s degree in an engineering discipline a plus
- Minimum 8 years of progressive product engineering experience required
- Detailed and applied knowledge of Finite Element Analysis, Applied Solid Mechanics, Material Science, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics
- Experience working with aluminum, steel, composite structures, and a variety of advanced joining methods for shock and vibration analysis
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues
- Solid analytical skills and solution-driven thinking, collects and researches data, uses intuition and experience to complement data. Makes good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment
- Hands-on experience with the following: LS-DYNA, Python, R, MATLAB, Ansys etc.
- Detail oriented, highly organized documentation practices and ability to prioritize tasks and work independently
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Relevant experience with Heavy-Duty vehicle systems engineering and integration a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Regularly required to sit for long periods, stand, and walk, and occasionally kneel or squat
- Fast paced work environment
- Standard start time 6:30 AM (negotiable)
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
$75,000 - $275,000/annual salary + premium benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
