The role offers an annual salary of between USD 12,000 to a maximum of USD18,000 depending on level of experience.

The Role                 

The Data Fellow is a high-impact entry-level position within the Africa, Country Delivery team. The Fellow supports the broader GEAPP Africa data mandate, focusing on the intersection of energy access, consumption, and resultant economic development across the continent. This role bridges energy supply-side realities with demand-side needs to provide a comprehensive view of how the Alliance is combating energy poverty. The Fellow will work across multiple critical initiatives, including Mission 300 (M300), the PUE Centre of Excellence, and various Country Delivery Units.

Accountabilities

  • Data Platform Support: Assist in the management and scaling of GEAPP Africa’s data infrastructure, including the open-source Prospect platform.
  • Integrated Data Analysis: Analyze data related to energy access, consumption patterns, and socio-economic outcomes to track progress toward ending energy poverty.
  • Cross-Initiative Coordination: Provide data support to the PUE Centre of Excellence, M300, and Country Delivery teams to ensure a unified approach to market intelligence.
  • Market Intelligence: Assist in producing geospatial opportunity maps and regular market reports that inform strategic planning and co-investment roadshows.
  • Data Visualization: Translate complex datasets into intuitive dashboards, infographics, and playbooks to empower governments and investors to make data-driven decisions.
  • Innovation & AI: Support the scoping and piloting of artificial intelligence and machine learning models to forecast market trends and optimize resource allocation.
  • Data Governance: Maintain the integrity, security, and quality standards of the Africa-wide data warehouse

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, Economics, or Public Policy; a Master’s degree will be considered an added advantage.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience in data analysis using tools such as Python, R, or STATA.
  • Data Visualization: Hands-on experience with visualization platforms like Power BI, Tableau, or Grafana.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong foundation in statistical analysis and the ability to handle large, complex datasets.
  • Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to frame complex technical topics for executive-level discussion.
  • Sector Interest: A genuine passion for the energy transition and understanding of both supply-side and demand-side energy need
