Summary: The Scholar Institute Reflective Seminar Instructor position is a part-time, seasonal employee role that supports our Golden Apple Scholars at their Scholar Institutes (SI). We anticipate that you will begin work in mid-May, 2025, and conclude your work no later than August 1, 2025.

Reports to:  Senior Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum, Neal Grimes.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting at least two reflective seminars weekly, assisting Scholars in preparation for teaching experiences, and performing formal observations utilizing the framework provided by the Foundation;
  • Communicating information about Scholars to the Senior Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum in a timely manner. Regular communication shall include providing weekly updates to the Senior Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum, preparing periodic status updates to the Senior Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum, and submitting Scholar performance reports within two weeks of the conclusion of SI. Timely communication shall include notifying the Senior Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum of any concerns as they relate to performance of Undergraduate Scholars and/or other Scholar issues as promptly as possible, but no later than 72 hours after detecting any material issue concerning any Scholar or the course program;
  • Collaborating with the Foundation’s management to communicate performance of Scholars, ensuring all Scholars are in compliance with Foundation policy as outlined in the Scholar Handbook, completing such reports,, and expense reimbursements in a timely manner as outlined by the Foundation’s management; and,
  • Assisting with coordination of SI events, attending SI meetings, and performing other duties as deemed reasonably necessary by the Foundation’s management.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Education; specialization or experience with curriculum development
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Professional verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to follow processes and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and multitask required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Pay Range:  $800 per week for up to three weeks of execution of the Reflective Seminar Instructor role during the assigned Scholar Institutes. This is calculated based on up to 40 hours of work during the week of Scholar Institute.  We expect that you can complete all of your duties within those 40 hours.  Therefore, you may not work more than 40 hours per week without prior written authorization from Senior Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum, Neal Grimes.  In the event additional hours are needed, you will be compensated at an overtime rate for all hours in excess of 40 hours per week

This is NOT a benefits’ eligible position at Golden Apple as your start date and end date in this role will be limited to a brief planning and preparation period followed by payment for up to three weeks of work in your role as a Reflective Seminar Instructor at Scholar Institutes. However, you will earn paid time off as required by local or state law.

  • You will be compensated for 2 hours of risk management training at a rate of $50 an hour. This two-hour training does not count toward the hours of work we expect to be required to complete the job.
  • Compensation for work done prior to the execution of Scholar Institutions: The Foundation shall pay $100 per hour for planning time up to a maximum of an additional five (5) hours per contract period, however, never to exceed 5 hours, unless previously approved, in writing, by the Senior Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum, to complete other responsibilities, including, but not limited to, curriculum development, planning and preparation and other duties for the assigned Scholar Institute. Planning time is intended for services prior to the start of Scholar Institute.
