Summary: The Scholar Institute Guest Presenter position is a part-time, seasonal employee role that supports our Golden Apple Scholars at their Scholar Institutes (SI). We anticipate that you will begin work in mid-May, 2025, and conclude your work no later than August 1, 2025.

Reports to:  Scholar Institute Lead Team and the Senior Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum, Neal Grimes.

Responsibilities:

  • Attending to all duties associated with SI; including planning, preparing, facilitating, and teaching the assigned courses at the assigned SI[s] and preparing all materials reasonably required to provide the instruction;
  • Delivering the scope, sequence, learning objectives, syllabus, and other components of the SI course materials to the Senior Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum prior to your first course;
  • Adhering to your assigned course schedule that will be sent to you prior to your assigned class. This role is intended for you to teach a maximum of 2 hours
  • Ensuring all Scholars are in compliance with Foundation policy as outlined in the Scholar Handbook;
  • Communicating information about Scholars to the Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum in a timely manner. Regular communication shall include providing weekly updates to the Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum, preparing periodic status updates to the Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum, and submitting Scholar performance reports within two weeks of the conclusion of SI. Timely communication shall include notifying the Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum of any concerns as they relate to performance of Undergraduate Scholars and/or other Scholar issues as promptly as possible, but no later than 72 hours after detecting any material issue concerning any Scholar or the course program;
  • Completing such reports, invoices, and expense reimbursements in a timely manner as outlined by the Foundation’s management;
  • Attending SI meetings, and performing other duties as deemed reasonably necessary by the Foundation’s management.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Education; specialization or experience with curriculum development
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Professional verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to follow processes and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and multitask required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Pay Range: $70 as an hourly rate of pay (“Hourly Rate of Pay”) for actual classroom instruction during the assigned Scholar Institute. You may not work more hours than initially assigned during SI without prior written authorization from Senior Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum, Neal Grimes. As a non-exempt employee, you are eligible for overtime pay in the event you work more than 40 hours in a workweek.

This is NOT a benefits’ eligible position at Golden Apple as your start date and end date in this role will be limited to a brief planning and preparation period followed by payment for work in your role as a Guest Presenter at Scholar Institutes. However, you will earn paid time off as required by local or state law.

  • Compensation for work done prior to the execution of Scholar Institutions: The Foundation will pay you the sum of $70 an hour for the preparation of the course materials or planning prior to the classroom instruction, equal to two (2) hours at the hourly Rate of Pay for each separate, distinct course assigned to you, provided that the additional remuneration shall only apply to each distinct course assigned, whether or not such course is assigned for multiple Scholar Institute sessions. Planning time is intended for services prior to the start of Scholar Institute.
