
Director, People Operations
About the Position
Golden State is looking for a strategic and empathetic Director to lead our People Operations team. In this role, you will work closely with employees and senior level management to align with business objectives. Additionally, you will serve as a consultant to management on human resources related issues and anticipate needs. This position reports to the Senior Vice President, People & Culture.

This is a full-time position based onsite in San Francisco, CA.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the People Operations team across all departments and entities
- Consult with line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate
- Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with the System & Analytics team to develop solutions, programs and policies
- Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues; conduct thorough and objective investigations
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance; partner with the Business & Legal Affairs team as needed
- Advise management on the interpretation of employment policies and practices, ensure consistent application of policies, and recommend policy changes as appropriate
- Collaborate with management and employees to improve working relationships, build morale, and increase efficiency and retention
- Provide guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning
- Identify training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs
- Coordinate and lead the Company’s annual performance review process and all related calibration sessions
- Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and industry best practices; reviews and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance
- Administer Company’s benefit programs, to include all health-related (medical, dental, vision, and other supplemental plans) and financial (401k) programs; recommend changes as appropriate
- Oversee leaves and ADA requests/processes/approvals to ensure legal and consistent application and documentation
- Participate in the Manager on Duty (MOD) program as assigned
- Lead and manage People Operations team; provide ongoing mentorship and development opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
Required Experience & Skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- PHR/SPHR certification (or equivalent) preferred
- 7+ years of human resources experience; Minimum 2 years of people management experience
- Experience in benefits administration, including health, financial, and workers compensation
- Strong knowledge of general human resources policies and procedures
- Knowledge of California employment/labor laws
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; HRIS systems (e.g., UKG) is a plus
- Ability to build positive working relationships with clients and peers at all levels within the organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication, service and resolution skills
- Excellent problem solving, communication, training and presentation skills
- Ability to balance multiple projects at once in a fast-paced work environment
Time Commitment
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed, particularly during event cycles
- Ability to participate in the Manager on Duty (MOD) program
Compensation
- $188,000 - 199,000+ Bonus
