Legal Assistant
We are seeking a highly organized and collaborative Legal Assistant to support our In-House Counsel in managing insurance defence files from initial assignment through to resolution. This role plays a critical part in driving legal matters forward by partnering closely with assigned legal counsel, ensuring seamless coordination across all stages of case management. Key responsibilities include organizing and maintaining case files, drafting legal documents and correspondence, scheduling meetings and deadlines, and facilitating effective communication between internal teams and external counsel. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive mindset, strong attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced legal environment.
What you will do:
Case File Management
- Help manage insurance defence files
- Draft pleadings, summaries, affidavits of documents, status reports and correspondence
- Assemble case materials, arrange defense medicals, prepare for trials and arbitrations
- Communicate with counsel and clients
- Schedule timely litigation events in coordination with opposing counsel
Legal Compliance and Governance
- Ensure regulatory compliance with case filing and reporting
What you will need to succeed:
Law clerk or Legal Assistant Certificate
2+ years of experience as an insurance law clerk or legal assistant
Proficiency and knowledge in the Rules of Civil Procedure
Proficiency in MS Office
Strong communication skills
Strong organizational skills
High attention to detail
Location: This is a hybrid work model, location can be either Cambridge, ON or Toronto, ON
