Interaction Designer – Contract
We’re looking for an interaction designer to help us set the standards for interaction design across the public sector. You’ll work as part of our first digital delivery team, helping the team to design and build simple, clean, and modern interfaces.
This is a hands-on, foundation-building role. You should be comfortable starting from scratch while sharing your work so others can follow. You’ll be designing interfaces that users depend on and helping teams new to digital ways of working understand why good interaction design matters. You’ll need to earn trust, work with ambiguity, and show your thinking in ways others can build on. Prior experience in building design systems and/or the ability to blur the lines between interaction and service design will be a big plus in this role.
What you do well
- Design accessible, responsive user interfaces
- Translate research and policy into clean, usable flows
- Work closely with developers and content designers to deliver digital services at speed
- Create accessible design patterns
- Build prototypes and/or live interfaces to help the team test ideas
- Create and contribute to the GOV.BB Design System
What you’ll bring
- Proven experience of working in large-scale digital transformation for government or similar organisations
- Previous work in agile delivery settings, ideally in government
- Experience with a range of design tools, prototyping, and design systems
- Experience and interest and opinion about the use of AI in your work and how AI can be used to benefit digital delivery
- Degree or training in UI/UX, graphic design, or interaction design
What you’ll deliver
- Interaction designs for live digital services
- Reusable interaction patterns and the start of a design system
- Design documentation
- Upskilling and sharing knowledge with other members of the team
