User Researcher – Contract

Remote / Hybrid

We’re looking for a user researcher to help us set the standards for user research across the public sector. You’ll work as part of our first digital delivery team, helping the team to research, design and build simple, clean, understandable, inclusive and modern interfaces that meet the needs of the people who use them.

This is a hands-on role in a multidisciplinary digital delivery team. You’ll help the team understand users' needs for digital services. This is a chance to shape how GovTech does user research across government from day one. You’ll be helping people see the value of research where it’s never been done before, influencing how decisions are made, and embedding insight into high-profile public services. You’ll need to guide others, win buy-in, and help people across government understand what users need.

Prior experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team in government or a similar complex area is essential. As is the ability to coach and inspire others, and document and talk about the work you're doing.

What you do

  • Plan and conduct user research using a mix of methods appropriate to the use cases
  • Bring evidence into the heart of delivery teams
  • Work with designers, developers and policy leads to test and iterate ideas
  • Document research plans and outputs for future use
  • Interpret and share user insights with senior stakeholders, government officials and ministers, in a pragmatic and open way

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience of working in large-scale digital transformation for government or similar organisations
  • Familiarity with government or regulated sectors
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Experience and interest and opinion about the use of AI in your work and how AI can be used to benefit digital delivery
  • Degree or equivalent experience in social sciences, Human-Computer Interaction, or UX research

What you’ll deliver

  • Research plans and reports
  • User personas, journey maps, and insight decks
  • Recommendations embedded into service designs
  • Upskilling and sharing knowledge with other members of the team

Contract details

  • Contract role, 3–6 months, 3-4 days a week, with potential to extend
  • Day rates are dependent on SFIA experience levels
    • Level 4 - Enable: USD $400–600
    • Level 5 - Ensure, advise: USD $600–850
