Cloud infrastructure developer - Contract
We’re looking for a cloud infrastructure developer to help us build and set the standards for cloud infrastructure across the public sector. You’ll work as part of our first digital delivery team, helping the team to research, design and build simple, clean, understandable, inclusive and modern services that meet the needs of the people who use them.
This is a hands-on role in a multidisciplinary digital delivery team. You’ll help teams ship early by setting up reliable, scalable environments and enabling fast, secure deployments. This is a chance to shape how GovTech delivers technology for its citizens from day one. You’ll be pragmatic and understand that moving quickly to win trust and get buy-in from stakeholders is important in this environment.
We’re delivering services from the ground up, and we need a cloud infrastructure developer who can build secure, scalable infrastructure that others can build on. We want you to help us build simple, robust cloud infrastructure with an emphasis on patterns, cost-effectiveness and maintainability.
Prior experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team in government or a similar complex area is essential. As is prior demonstrable experience building reusable components and patterns. The ability to coach and inspire others, and document and talk about the work you're doing, will be a benefit to successful candidates.
What you do
- Design, provision and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure
- Automate deployments and manage CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, Terraform or similar
- Configure monitoring, alerting and logging to support reliable service operations
- Implement infrastructure security best practices (e.g. secrets management, IAM, network access)
- Write secure, maintainable and well tested code, following modern software development principles
- Lead infrastructure setup, deployment, and monitoring
- Think in terms of reusable platform components
What you’ll bring
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or AWS CloudFormation
- Familiarity with networking concepts, load balancing, container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes), and cloud-native architecture
- Experience, interest, and opinion about the use of AI in your work and how AI can be used to benefit digital delivery
- Previous work in delivery-focused teams, ideally in government or large-scale environments
- This is a foundational role, and we expect you to contribute to conversations about technology choice and strategy
What you’ll deliver
- Reliable infrastructure to support development and deployment of public services
- Automated provisioning scripts and documented cloud environments
- CI/CD pipelines and monitoring dashboards for operational visibility
- Deployment automation and infrastructure documentation
- Upskilling and sharing knowledge with other members of the team
