About the Role:
Do you want to help guide financial planning, business operations, and strategic decision making at a Forbes Cloud 100 company? Come join the Finance, BizOps & Strategy (FBOS) team at Gusto. The FBOS team provides financial, operational, and strategic support at the corporate, departmental, and product level. The team’s mission is to define and defend the business model while accelerating Gusto’s growth. A core philosophy in FBOS is that we are not here to merely forecast -- that is, to try to predict an indeterminate future -- we are here to help make it happen. We roll up our sleeves as partners and pitch in with operators as needed.
About the Team:
As Director of the Corporate Finance team, you’ll take the role of a “player/coach”, empowering a team and driving company-wide financial planning and forecasting, resource allocation, operations, and capital allocation. You’ll guide, leverage, and influence adoption of the newest finance and AI tools to drive automation, scale internal reporting, and increase efficiency. Ultimately, this accrues to responsibility for all-up internal and external financial storytelling through direct and indirect leadership.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
- Empower. Provide leadership among members of the Corporate Finance team. Develop talent through coaching and mentoring. Embody a service mindset by helping your team establish priorities, manage uncertainty, and set and achieve stable goals.
- Player / Coach. Drive best-in-class Financial Planning & Forecasting practices directly and indirectly. Create clarity around and maintain command of the all-up P&L; support strategic planning, forecasting, and resource allocation including headcount planning and management.
- Business Operations. Lead adoption of the newest finance and AI tools. Support development of technical solutions to business problems; validate and communicate technical and data requirements to business partners, test solutions, and ensure they meet specifications.
- Management Reporting. Support key corporate reporting requirements to Board of Directors and Executive Team, e.g. all-up OKR tracking, performance to plan, budget vs. actual variance analysis, and other analysis in Pigment, Tableau, Redash, and similar BI tools.
- Storytelling. Distill complex financial information into clear, logical, and grounded stories. Tell these stories in different ways and to different audiences including internally with FBOS, business partner, and Gusto leadership, as well as externally with investors and the Board of Directors.
Here’s what we're looking for:
- Experience
- 8+ years of relevant work experience in Corporate Finance / Finance & Strategy, BizOps / IR with Operational SaaS experience.
- Financial Operations experience at a startup is preferred.
- Experience at both private and public SaaS companies is preferred.
- Direct people management experience is preferred.
- Technical skills
- Excel/Sheets pro with the superpower to develop insightful financial models and quantitative analysis, paired with strong critical thinking and financial storytelling skills.
- Experience driving financial business processes in enterprise tools like Coda, Pigment, and Asana.
- Comfortable with data and analysis in Tableau, Redash, or similar BI tools.
- Discipline & Attitude
- Leader who embodies a service-mindset
- Attention to detail with a natural feel for numbers and data; able to balance between accuracy and precision in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
- Affinity for ambiguity and time-management and comfort juggling multiple projects/tasks with multiple stakeholders amid deadlines on time sensitive projects.
- Proactive business partner willing to roll up sleeves and troubleshoot issues that arise.
- Business builder and systems thinker.
