Senior Frontend Engineer

Hapara is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer for the Hapara New Zealand team. We are looking for an experienced and skillful Engineer to play a leadership role as the second-in-command of our Front-End Practise. You will work closely with the Front-End Lead to shape the technical direction of our product, guide less specialised team members, and ensure the successful delivery of high-quality, scalable front-end solutions. You will perform hands-on development independently and in cross-functional teams. You will work closely with product managers, designers, and back-end engineers to ensure the seamless integration of front-end and back-end systems. This role is ideal for someone with strong React expertise and a passion for leading and mentoring developers in a dynamic environment.
This role is hybrid based in Auckland, New Zealand. You must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work permit.

Responsibilities
- Hands-On Development: Actively contribute to coding and software design, working primarily with React, TypeScript, and related technologies.
- Problem Solving: Take ownership of challenging technical issues, troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving problems in the development and production environments.
- Lead Technical Strategy: Collaborate with and support the front-end lead to define and execute the technical vision for the React development team, ensuring alignment with business objectives and product goals.
- Code Quality & Best Practices: Advocate for and ensure adherence to best practices in coding, testing, and software architecture. Conduct code reviews and assist in maintaining a high standard of code quality across the team.
- Mentorship & Team Development: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, particularly inducting full stack engineers into our front-end vision. Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture within the team.
- You will have a wide range of opinions (about the JavaScript ecosystem, what makes UI great, etc) and be able to argue them persuasively but judiciously
Qualifications
- Experience in a senior front-end development role
- Proven ability leading cross-functional teams
- Experience mentoring junior staff (formally or informally)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities as projects ebb and flow across our teams
- Desire to see tasks through to their end
