Director, Field Reimbursement and East Payer Relations

The Director, Field Reimbursement & East Payer Relations is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the Field Reimbursement team and engaging with assigned commercial payers in the East region. This leader will be accountable to ensure HeartFlow’s technologies are accessible and reimbursed across the healthcare system, enabling adoption at the provider level while advancing payer coverage strategies. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong operational skills and deep experience in both field-based support and strategic engagement with commercial health plans.
Job Responsibilities:
- Field Reimbursement
- Lead and develop the national Field Reimbursement team, ensuring effective provider support for access, coding, billing, and reimbursement of HeartFlow’s products.
- Define KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of field reimbursement activities.
- Develop and disseminate educational materials on coding, billing, prior authorization, and appeals.
- Provide strategic leadership, talent development, and operational guidance to the field reimbursement team to ensure alignment and execution excellence.
- Anticipate market trends and cultivate team capabilities to drive innovative, proactive market access strategies.
- Payer Relations, East
- Lead engagement with named payers in the east geography, building strategies and relationships to drive favorable coverage and reimbursement policies for Heartflow’s products.
- Foster payer partnerships post-coverage to support provider education, explore alternative payment models, and accelerate technology adoption.
- Serve as an external-facing leader with payers, health systems, and policy stakeholders to support the value proposition of HeartFlow’s offerings.
Skills Needed:
- Exceptional communication skills with a proven track record of leading cross-functional teams to achieve successful coding, coverage, and payment for innovative healthcare technologies.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. healthcare reimbursement, including commercial payers, CMS, coding and coverage pathways, and health policy trends.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, negotiate, and maintain relationships with payers, health plans, and RBMs and experience influencing payer policy decisions to support innovative medical technologies.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to build and lead a high-performing team.
- Demonstrated success leading both payer engagement and field-facing access teams.
- Strategic thinker with strong leadership, communication, and change management skills.
Educational Requirements & Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPH, or related) strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Market Access, Field Reimbursement, Managed Care or Field Sales roles within the medical device, diagnostics, or digital health industry.
- Minimum 7 years’ experience building, managing, and leading Field teams in required. Experience managing field based teams in different locations, time zones, and countries is greatly preferred.
- Experience in a high-growth or innovative healthcare company preferred.
This position has an estimated base salary of $180,000 - $230,000, a cash bonus and stock options.
